How do people feel about getting [email protected] ? Mods over there don’t really seem cooperative, but it’s not like it matters that much now?

I’ll just vent here quickly because I don’t want to create another post on [email protected], but still would like talk about it for a bit.

@[email protected] informed me that I’ve been banned from [email protected]: https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/modlog?page=1&actionType=All&userId=12093216

Seems like they considered this post (see below) harassment, but it took them a while, as I was still able to post there for a while after posting it: https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/search?q=+&type=Comments&listingType=All&communityId=2942&creatorId=12093216&page=1&sort=New

I guess they just don’t like criticism.

Still a bit surprised by one of the mods statements

      You got everything you wanted.

Well, no, [email protected] still hasn’t been transferred to [email protected] mod team. But as we stated in the post we’re currently in, it doesn’t matter that much.

Here is an updated (so hopefully harassment-free version of the post:)

Ping @[email protected] @[email protected] @[email protected], thank you for defending my perspective.

      • yeh I saw that, I dont think ur post was harassment but I do kinda get theyd feel that way with all the hate theyre getting XP I do feel like it was a bit too much posting that on their community, would have made more sense on this community but anyway I think we should stop talking about that now that it seems the drama has mostly ended :3

I absolutely knew this was coming. I held onto this comment exchange specifically because I knew they would drop the hammer-

How this is anything other than a threat, when said by someone with authority, I’ll never know. As far as whether or not it’s harassment, I can’t see the one you did link, but if you called them a name, then that’s definitely not okay. However, I will add that as a mod, if you get asked a question in public and don’t reply to it, you can absolutely expect the commenter to keep asking it. That isn’t harassment so much as it’s expected human behavior.

Part of being a mod is agreeing to deal with even the most insistent, possibly annoying people. It’s not against the rules to be insistent or annoying, so you really need either the patience of a school teacher, or the rigid clenched fist of an authoritarian. My go-to move was, anytime someone annoyed me in such a way that I felt I couldn’t answer without overstepping, I’d flag a different moderator and ask them to respond. You don’t have to actually engage if you’re worried someone will raise your blood pressure. That’s why you need a team. And communciation!

but if you called them a name

The post was called “Delusional mod rule”, not sure if that qualifies as a name in this case

            Oh I remember that!

Oof. Yeah. Well, I feel like this was probably a PTB sitch but also one we could easily see coming. They can’t have you commenting in their domain and showing people the mistakes they made.

In the meantime, I haven’t seen them comment on what happened publically and not receive a ton of displeasure from the crowd. Any particularly loud voices are going to be targeted anyway they can be, and yours, being that you posted to YPTB (where they were again flamed in the comments) is an easy one to single out.

Yes! This is exactly the thing. So if that user was like, more online, they might have followed those mods around asking them to answer this post. Then, they would have banned them for harassment, since they were following the mods around, and that would “solve” them never answering the big post.

Oh I’m on and watching. Just watching for now.

(I work from home and have a LOT of monitors in my office, so a single browser is easy peasy)

Edited to add: I’ll be following up in the very same thread BTW. Just giving them a full day.

                They asked, I obliged.

I’m just glad I started with the quoted part, or it would have been an even longer comment without a reply!

Though I never expected an actual response anyway.

For the record, I kind of agree with the outcome here. The mods are getting enough pushback and you escalating it to name calling did not advance the wellbeing or outcome for either side.

          That’s fair.

I was just being really frustrated with that mod not having a local account, and not being recognizing that was an issue. That’s basic knowledge that every mod has that you won’t get the reports from a non-local account.

When you go through this comment from Ada, it’s even more blatant that Ada had to do the heavy lifting on the moderation: https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/post/20976989/12493554

People are allowed to make mistakes, to be clueless. But trying to throw Ada and Blahaj under the bus because they didn’t just cared enough to create a post on Blahaj meta community just seemed weird to me.

I’m so glad this all worked out so smoothly. Whatever happens next, it makes me so happy to see that this community handled a difficult situation so well in so little time. That’s definitely a good sign :3

It’s quite reassuring about Lemmy and federation in general. Power tripping mods? Just move elsewhere in a few hours!

That’s true, but what really impresses me is that the “new” 196 gained so much traction so quickly. Creating a new community is one thing, but so many people were immediately on board because they didn’t like what the mods did to the “old” 196. Nobody was willing to take the mods’ shit and that’s very cool.

The mods of [email protected] wanted to move the community over to lemmy.world without asking the users. They literally locked down the community and made a post saying “We moved.” That didn’t land well, [email protected] was created and quickly grew to a respectable size because lots of people wanted to stay on blahaj. The mods of the original 196 backed down and reopened the old community, but I don’t know what’s gonna happen next. Trust in the mods has been broken by that, though.

Valid point, but it doesn’t seem like they want to let go. They were probably thinking that they could force people to LW by keeping the Blahaj community locked, but now that everyone moved here, it’s indeed a bit ridiculous.

Shame that Ada had to split the community, but at least there will be more memes in the long run!
