So like, I’m gay in this thought experiment and my gay husband doesn’t see woman as people? Wtf kind of trauma was he exposed to? Children do not have gender beliefs born into them… Some might just think they are better than everyone else, but that is an over active ego… Stop doing whatever it is ya’ll be doing to your boys for them to be so misaligned against half their own species.

Imagine being married to an orange clown who never came to this realization, even though he got a daughter.

        As he has repeatedly said.

We oughta weaponize far-right rhetoric against him and rile up his base by telling them that a Jew cucked their leader and bred his daughter, “how can he keep our country safe if he cannot even keep his family safe?” etc etc

No. Their god-king can not do anything wrong in their eyes. So this would have no effect on them. But you will normalize their rhetoric with it. “See, even non-maga people say it”

He can fall from grace. Too bad he’ll bring about his own undoing because we’re utterly incompetent. And weaponizing hipocrisy hardly is “normalizing their rhetoric”. Anyway, I’m already busy with neo-fascists on this side of the pond.

In my experience that doesn’t usually happen, instead they simply see the daughter as another piece of property theirs to control (which is often framed as “protect”), and draw validation of their (toxic) masculinity from (making themselves feel like “big men” by threatening to harm any guy who comes near her for example).

I don’t know how they did it, but the channel has managed to create a very wholesome community for deprogramming people on the far right. I highly recommend them!

I’ll second the recommendation, Belle (the guy in that video is Beau who used to run the channel) does a great job. Also just really good coverage of current events.

a woman they don’t want to sleep with,

Sadly this isn’t always the case, there’s often a deeply incestuous vibe (and sometimes more than that) to that kind of ownership some men take of their daughters (I don’t really feel like looking through the results for this search right now, but I remember several images of men wearing t shirts saying shit like “the only one who gets to touch my daughter is me” and creepy shit like that).

There are so many different layers of fucked up to a relationship between a misogynistic man and his daughter., it really is so unfortunate, but it’s just one more way in which the patriarchy maintains itself.

          An incestuous vibe

Not in every case, but often, the phrase “emotional incest” applies. This is when a parent treats their child the same they would a partner or potential partner. Ask me why I know about it lol

Lot of them (at least of prior generations) internalized that misogyny and think it’s their place. Disgusting to see.

Set up audio for a Bible study of 70+ year old women. Shit you not the video they were watching said “you know sometimes our moods are like the cloths in our closets”

The look in the crowd was not horror but nodding along.

The 50 sonething feminist coworker was mortified.

When I was in healthcare a co-worker and I were chatting with a patient while setting up a blood draw. She said she was in an engineering program at (local school).

My co-worker told her how brave she was because “You know us women aren’t good at math.”

My co-worker was a 40 something nurse practitioner with three daughters. You just know this otherwise very smart woman is going to pass that thought disease down to her kids.

Or that they need to be able to change moods at will to suit the situation, instead of being allowed to express their feelings. Ever.

Or they got plenty of em and switch em frequently.

How ever one reads the statement, it’s making the connection that female emotions are something different then malr emotions and that is just silly. Its just that woman are raised to deal differently with them as men do and neither way is healthy for any of those genders.

Go back to~100-150 years and scroll up and you can get more!

Women can’t get an education because all the blood will flow up to their brains and they’ll be unable to have children.

If a woman doesn’t have sex enough she’ll get Wandering Womb Syndrome, where her womb will bounce around inside her damaging her other organs.

Women have smaller brains, and therefore are stupider.

(I would like to add that these were actual, official medical diagnoses and beliefs, not just something the unwashed masses talked about)

It was also believed that if a woman was raped, she was now impure, and if a man was courting her, the proper, honorable, and gentlemanly thing to do was to throw the slut over and find a nice pure girl instead.

that’s the thing with hegemony. it’s so pervasive in how it programs you that you don’t even see it. you’re not even aware there are alternatives until someone jostles you awake. we live in a patriarchal white supremacist christofascist society. the enforcers of this status quo don’t all even understand that these are not genetically imparted truths inherent to our living situations, but rather social constructs enforced on us.

and i’m sure i have hegemonic blind spots too. i try my best to see out into the world and hear perspectives that aren’t my own so i can have access to the full truth. i fall short sometimes. none of us can see all things everywhere. the best you can do is have patience with sleep walkers who are non violent threats, protect people from violent threats, and be open to the idea that you can be wrong, and hope that by living with kindness and compassion you can do your part to create the enlightened society we all dream of, even the christofascist followers, where all are free.
