What skinheads are you talking about? The ones before the movement became filled with nazis or the ones after?

I’m not sure. I did not know there was a distinction. I really do not care about the nazi or racist part, but considering the downvotes, that doesn’t matter much. I mostly like the energy, maybe you can call it hate or a general feeling of the unheard. Also the bands that have this raw vocalist, sound pretty cool. (But I’m sure that’s not an exclusively skinhead thing.) But anyways, it’s a powerful emotion to base your music upon.

I’m curious what the distinction is. Maybe you can name some bands? In the palylist I’m currently listening, I’ve heard “B squadron” and “plan of attack”, which sound pretty nice, aesthetically.

      • The distinction is that, originally, skinheads were basically just bald punks. Then the look and scene were co-opted by the neo-nazi movement to a point where “skinhead” became synonymous with “neonazi.”

Yeah, I’m affraid I’m on the wrong side of this distinction. Not ideologically, but the raw emotion and hate sounds very powerful. But it’s not just the nazi punks who make that kind of music. It’s just that they are easy to find. If you can recommend me something better, with the same energy. I’m happy to listen to that.

Original skinheads = good kids who generally got on really well with the Jamaican rudeboys. People were generally apolitical but were connected by class (working class) not divided by colour. Eventually created 2-tone music.

Nazi skinheads = Not remotely friends with rudeboys. Probably see them as sub-human. Haven’t created anything new musically (that I’m aware of).

Punk = type of music played by both lovely accepting people and terrible scum too.

You don’t know the difference between Nazis and punk.

If you called a pink kid a skinhead you’d get your has beat by him. They are the opposite of skinheads.

If it is done by skinheads then it is automatically NOT punk. Just like No Doubt does not make “ska”, but especially, very much, absolutely more so!

That’s an interesting take. I do agree that “No Doubt” is not ska. But than again, I’ve never thought that it might be ska.

I think “skinhead punk” is a very succinct, very separate subgenre of punk. But punk nonetheless.

I get why you deny it though, because punk is supposed to be the very political opposite of that. In that sense I do agree with you that skinhead punk is not punk at all.

Not at all. It’s all about emotion and hate is one of the most powerful emotions. That’s why social media is running so hot these days and I don’t agree with general social media either.

Kind of. It’s not the hate per se, but it’s the raw emotion. I’m not very good with emotions, but this one sound very raw and aggressive. Which has an appeal. The best I can attribute it to is hate. Also, the fact that it’s “nazi punk” is influencing my choice of the term “hate”.

Nazi skinheads don’t make better music than punks or sharps or the original skinheads (lower class british multi racial sub culture)

Yeah I get that, but it’s a good gateway drug into actually appreciating punk. You start with “skinhead punk” because they kind of have this reputation that you’re curious about. And suddenly you find that you like punk.

Nah, pop punk is something completely different. You’re talking about shit like “greenday” and “sum41”, which are great in their field, but that hasn’t got very much I’m common with the raw punk energy I’m looking for here.

One of what? People who like to step outside of the beaten track every once in a while? You think listening to hateful music makes me hateful? I’m guessing you, re also someone who thinks a mosh pit is a bad thing, don’t you?

With music made by nazis it very much is.

You stream it: you are paying nazis, you buy it: you are paying nazis, you listen to it after you know it’s nazi propaganda: you are willfully consuming nazi propaganda as entertainment (unless it’s research into hate speech).

The idea of the music was to signal a specific political alignment with the ideas expressed.

I don’t feel like I’m supporting them. I listen to the music on spotify, which notoriously doesn’t pay their creators. I’m also not influenced by the propaganda. I’m just there for the energy. Also I’m listening to it low-key. I’m not advertising it. Although I’m realising this post might be contrary to that statement.

What do you have when a Nazi sits at a table with four good people, and they allow him to stay?

You have a table with five Nazis.

I’ve heard Burzum, but that’s not nazi punk. There’s not enough hate for things that are not actually the problem, but you’re to dumb to realize. It’s basically just doom-metal.

You missed the message of my comment entirely and I was pretty sympathetic to you.

        Nazi punk: not good

Nazi black metal (NSBM): regrettably pretty good

        Nazi neofolk: regrettably pretty good

That’s just a matter of taste though, isn’t it? I generally don’t like black metal. And I haven’t a clue what “neofolk” is (might check that out later). I always appreciated punk, never really liked it, but skinhead punk does scratch the “punk itch” for me. It’s a well defined and well known sub-genre of punk, where other punk genres are less well-known, but maybe equally good. It’s basically a gate-way drug into other sub-genres of punk.

Oh right, that rings a bell. Makes sense that it’s black metal. But I don’t like black metal much. Honestly, I’m not sure how you can tell the difference between a “nazi black metal” band and a “my little pony rainbow black metal” band.

Lol, I believe you. You can’t be a “moderate nazi” if you took the effort to join a fucking nazi band. But I’m not always looking up the Wikipedia page of every band that passes some random playlist I listen to. So the message could very well fly over my head. That happens generally quite often to me, to be honest.
