I wish there was an electric car with manual controls, for under $30k, that didn’t spy on me

If you have an internal combustion engine car that is currently not running due to engine and or transmission issues, but nothing to repair regarding the body, suspension, brakes, etc. There are a couple of companies in LA that do EV conversions, complete with manual transmission mimicking, for about $30,000.

When I said manual controls, I just meant knobs and buttons instead of a touchscreen. Definitely not looking for a stick shift lol.

Shakeup? You mean tesla is going down leaving lots of space to be taken by other companies?

Well yeah, but also legacy American car companies have backed away from EVs, so they’re not going to take it up. And Rivian needs a few more years to get to mass market so not them

American industry and jobs lose, but who wins?

      • Hyundai?
      • BYD?

BYD’s system, even if the production version is significantly less powerful, is still a massive step forward, and goes a long way towards making road trips towing a trailer, for example, a realistic proposal.

With my diesel SUV, I can start a trip with a full tank, and still need to fill up twice, in a vehicle with more range than almost any EV.

I’ve only just heard about BYD yesterday and I’m suddenly hearing from all corners that they are dominating. I’m in the western US. Are they just not in my local market yet?

Not allowed in the US. Sometimes this sort of protectionism works, but not while you’re destroying Tesla and legacy manufacturers are going back to gas. By the time Trump is out, the entire American car industry will no longer be able to compete in the global market.

Chinese EVs are effectively banned in US with 100% tariff, and a hateful disposition. The higher end chinese cars could compete with Ferarri/Lamborghi segment though, even at 100%.

Gotta keep some human shields around and also make sure you watch them closely so they don’t turn gay or Democrat on you.
