First release premieres sometime in 2026 and is titled “Made in Abyss: Awakening Mystery”. Check out the ANN article for more information. Synopsis for the first season from AniList:

The “Abyss” is the last unexplored place in the world. Strange and wonderful creatures roam within, and it is full of precious relics that present humans can’t recreate. Those that dare to explore the depths are known as “Cave Raiders.” An orphan girl named Riko lives on the rim. Her dream is to become a Cave Raider like her mother and solve the mysteries of the cave system. One day, Riko starts exploring the caves and discovers a robot who resembles a human boy.

This show started off so good then the weird af OVA and now who’s this D cup underboob-showing, busted spine child??

    Fuck, yo, what the hell

What a great concept ruined by the continuous and wanton sexualization of children.

I don’t really mind the weirder parts that much, it’s just animated, so I can ignore it. But, I do find it sad that the inclusion of the weird elements alienates so many people to a series that is so beautiful, in my opinion.

The very first episode weirded me out enough to never watch the series again

Been a while since I’ve seen the first episode but I think there’s like a 2 second cutaway scene of the main girl being strung up naked as a punishment for something? Oh and some joke about the robots weewee.

It’s definitely not for everyone but it gets massively overblown at the same time IMO.

I believe this is new content. There isn’t too much more of the manga to adapt, not enough for a full season, so this is the outcome. I expect these will probably be more like OVAs than full feature films.

There might be enough for a movie if they already know the story will have an inflection point to end on coming. Anime seems to be working closely with the author so probably.

First season was amazing. Didn’t like the second season quite as much, but I didn’t think it was bad. Excited to see what comes next.
