Me sending a silent, psychic signal to the other person that I am happy to see them, but I do not under any circumstances, want to have a conversation right now.
I just have that signal on constant auto broadcast.
Teach me, master!
Always look busy. If you smile and/or wave at someone while walking fast and either digging around in a bag or actively drinking out of a water bottle (ideally a metal one or something similarly clunky- a plastic water bottle isn’t that unpleasant to drink from while walking, so doing so does not indicate a rush as clearly), they feel greeted, but it’s clear you’re not in a good place for a chat.
You can also pretend to be on hold on the phone, but they’ll think you’re a real dick if your phone rings unless you can play it off as a disconnection/auto redial.

Me when my social anxiety riddled ass sees the same person for the 11th time in the same day and still feels obligated to greet them 🤦🏻
Them: Why do they keep entering my cubicle, nodding at me, then leaving!?
So honestly, what is the proper etiquette in that case? It’s weird to just keep staring at them as they approach, but I always feel just looking forward comes off as rude. I’m not sure how I’ve made it 26 years without asking that question lmao.
I honestly have no idea and I’m 43 😄
*and realize you both took casual Friday too casual.
What’s a bit of hanging dong between acquaintances? 🤷🏻
Nah, I just do a thousand yard stare like a Vietnam vet.
I usually carry a piece of paper or my phone so i can pretend to be staring at it if there’s someone else in the hall.
