Finally got around to printing a bunch of lid holders and got everything nice and neat. Some missing because they are in use. Also you can see my printed spice rack.

This, more than anything I’ve seen on Lemmy or reddit, makes me want to get a 3D printer. I know they’re great for lots of different applications, but this speaks to me.

Have you ever considered learning to make things out of wood? You can get a decent like table saw and learn to make something like this for less than a printer. Then once you’re hooked you can buy an entire house because it has a great 3 car garage and than justify rewiring it for big 220v saws and drop 5 figures on tools because you’re going to use them on the remodel. I could make some really pretty organizers now…

Hahaha yeah woodworking is definitely more expensive than 3d printing after the 1st project 😂

This is me as well, but my saw and tools don’t get nearly as much love as my printer nowadays. Partially because of health issues but honestly I get into stuff and buy all the things I need to make awesome stuff but then move on to other projects. I think I just like buying nice equipment.

Oh stuff like this was the main reason I wanted a 3D printer to begin with. I spend so much time just walking around my house looking for something I can make better with a print. It’s my favorite problems solving.

I was first jealous, then realized you’re using SIX shelves for your containers, instead of the traditional single quick-close-the-door-before-they-spill-out one

    Absolutely gorgeous home organization, man!

(There doesn’t happen to be a home organization part of the Fediverse, is there?)

Thank you. There is now! On your idea, I created [email protected]. Will post this and hopefully it blows up

Hi there! Looks like you linked to a Lemmy community using a URL instead of its name, which doesn’t work well for people on different instances. Try fixing it like this: [email protected]

Screw different instances, it opens in a browser for me despite being local. Your fixed link opens in app.

Good idea there. I shoved all my lids in a drawer and stacked my containers in the cupboard. But my sister has a million mugs and bottles, I dont know where to put all this stuff lol

I’ve tried all kinds of ways to organize. My mom just has a big tub with all kinds of lids of every size and shape and I can’t stand trying to match so I try to make sure I have a bunch of matching stuff. I was using a drawer last time, but it just wasn’t working. So when I had some extra cash, I replaced all my stuff to just various sized pyrex and a few of these rubbermaid kits and I love it.

I just stack the tubs on top of the matching lids.

But then we don’t have that many tubs either.

I used to do that, but I hated having to pick up the container to get to the lid every time. And as you said, I like to have a lot of containers as well.

Looking at your photo has helped me realize that I should be using lid organizers. Do you like the ones you have?

Edit: was just surfing /all and I didn’t even realize I was in 3d printing. Heh. I’m still curious if you have a review of them. ♡

Ha, yes, this is the one I printed. I didn’t need them so tall and they use a lot of filament so I cut off the bottoms mostly and they are perfect sizes for all my lids. The only thing I should have done is brought them into Fusion 360 and added more slots instead of printing a bunch of holders of 5 only. But it’s not really an issue. It takes up a bit more space, but I love having everything in one place and nothing is falling over or sliding around.

Very nice! I have the same locking Rubbermaid lids and I use an accoridian stainless plate holder for them. It works quite well, but this looks even a little bit better and is a perfect unnecessary 3d printing project to add to my list. Assume the medium lids (second shelf down on left) are with the regular stl, not the “big” one? Assume PLA for this? Doesn’t really need to be PETG does it? Agree no supports needed? 15% infill?

Oh yes, almost nothing I print is “necessary” but I love problem solving with printing. Can you link the accordion holder. Having trouble visualizing it.

Yes the big STL is only the top shelf. I love those locking lid containers, I end up using those instead of ziplock bags because they are so nice.

I used Polymaker white PLA and with cutting off the bottom, it’s all solid inside since it’s all so thin, so infill doesn’t matter. No supports.

            One of these: https://a.co/d/b0xLCEm

Im excited to try these holders though. I’ve been photographing different items in the kitchen, using photo to stl conversion and making placeholders for things with that technique - so yes, the obsession is real.

Lol know exactly what you mean. Yeah I don’t think I’d like that accordion thing. Adjustable stuff never stays how I want it.

Can you rotate them 90° and get a ton of functional space back in your cabinets? Seems like pretty inefficient use of space currently. Very tidy, regardless.

Yes, each one holds 5. I did try them the other way but it was a pain to get the lids out because you had to raise them so high. But I prefer this way. I’m usually a fuction over form type person but for this I just love being able to see it all so neat and tidy.

Clearly the solution is 3D print drawer slides and a little handle so they can effortlessly slide out of the cabinet. Maybe even a pivot so they can angle down and lock in place for easy perusal and selection.
