It’s probably in their interest to continue having a lot of stupid Americans with money to buy their products while they hold our debt. Unless another market exists to replace us, we can’t be allowed to completely collapse. Not that it’s much better being in limbo.

While China definitely wouldn’t want to lose the US market entirely, I’m pretty sure at this point they consider the EU market a lot more important. Which is why they won’t allow Putin to nuke Kiev.

SA has majorly diversified their holdings over the last decade or so. They’re no longer solely dependent on Aramco (although still majorly). Specifically they own a lot of the global media landscape, both outright and through more… obscure means.

Side thought, I don’t think the current political structure of the US would suit china, if they ended up holding soft power over it. I think they’d purge people pretty quickly.

Come on Canada, you know what to do.

Actually I’m not sure it’s worth it. It’s still giving money to Americans. But it would be funny to be able to inundate them with propaganda of our choice.

Indeed. I had a choice to make when broadband was first rolled out in my hometown. Pay for cable TV or internet. Didn’t have the capability for both, and figured that paying for a two-way communication service was a better deal, so the cable TV was cut in '99.

I used to watch the network nightly news on youtube but I noticed that the programming got shorter and shorter each year… as the commericals took more of the half-hour airtime… it was like… naaah… so quit it all and switched to news journals and independent sources.
