FYI, there are “yachts” and then there are yachts. For every billionaire’s mega-yacht with helicopter pads and dozens of crew and whatnot, there are thousands of decades-old, sub-40-foot sailboats that some hippie bought for $1 and spent a year fixing up at the marina in hopes of doing the nautical equivalent of #vanlife.

Unfortunately, the ones being attacked by the orcas tend to be closer to the latter.

Yes, we need to train and arm the orcas better.

Now help me get this explosive suicide vest on the whale

Please don’t use endangered species for suicide missions.

Give a whale a suicide vest and he might sink one random yacht

Teach a whale how to use power tools and he will kill billionaires for a lifetime

A lot, if not most, people confuse affluent with rich. Affluent is “I slaved myself and now I can afford a treat now and then”. Rich is “what is this word people keep using --work”.

Is that actually a fact or just some arbitrary definition you came up with?

Working a lot does not justify the bourgeoisie. Hard work does not = success. I could go and work myself to death right now, but for only minimum wage. There are certain groups of people who have a clear advantage, often from birth. Equating hard work with prosperity is a very old fashioned, conservative thing.

Seems like the issue is people making assumptions period. They could be rich, they could be affluent. They could be a wealthy person that supports leftist causes and pays their taxes, or they could be affluent and voting Republican every election.

        We don’t know.

But we can make assumptions based on what’s most likely. And someone with watercraft of that size are not likely to be working class.

Does that mean they don’t deserve empathy? Of course not. Does this suck? Sure. Am I crying a river over them? Nah. They’ll swim to shore, dry off, go back to their easy lives.

That’s the thing about being well off: you’ve got the means to pick yourself back up, so I’m less concerned for you when you get knocked down.

You underestimate how much liveaboard-size yachts depreciate.

You also underestimate how many people only own such a yacht and have no other residence.

Yeah, especially when a lot of those cruisers bought their very old boats for cheap and live on drastically less income than the people criticizing them. Sure, there are some cruisers who retired from lucrative careers and then bought a boat, but there are also a bunch who get by taking odd jobs in marinas in order to fund enough food and repairs to make it to the next port.

Pretty sure with enough money killer whales could be wiped out very fast.
