I used to build race cars. Two guys I knew did this.

The first one was actually a massive nerd who by day worked for some shipbuilding company that designed and made composite hulls for the Navy. It was big money with few working hours.

The other guy owned some random worthless land in the middle of nowhere and some oil company sent him money each month for mineral rights.

So essentially both had limitless funds for what is usually a side hobby.

Ive built racecars too and I love the optimism of these people. Its always slightly depressing to have to explain to them “Buddy, if there was an affordable way to easily make 1000 reliable HP without sacrificing anything for a reasonable figure. We would all have done it.”

A common thing I’ve told people starting out is to find a class or race you want to compete in and build the car for that. It’s almost always cheaper to have one race car and one street car than it is to have a car that tries to do both.

Obviously, this is ridiculous, but how many seemingly normal people have analogous dreams.

“I want to run a company, but never went to business school or managed people.”

“I want to invent the next killer app, but need some people who know how to program.”

“I want a smoking hot, submissive girlfriend, but I am out of shape, spend no time on my appearance, and have trouble speaking to other people out loud.”

Athletes, musicians, investors, writers, artists, we want it all and we want it now.

What are you doing today to fulfill your dreams? You’re not going to win the lottery. You’re not going to be “discovered” by someone in power. You are the source of your success. Set your goal and work towards it right now.

“I want a smoking hot, submissive girlfriend, but I am a misogynist.”

Ftfy, women don’t date people usually because they’re assholes, those other features are “correlation ≠ causation” situation.

You are the source of your success.

      Good sentiment but scientifically disproven.

That being said, if you want to see something in the world, the fastest way to execute your idea perfectly is to do it yourself.

Fair points both. I was going for more of the hypocrisy and lack of effort regarding appearance, and the double standard. Being a misogynist isn’t the default position, and it takes effort to be an asshole. Not to mention, a great sense of humor and a kind personality smooth over a lot of physical imperfections.

And you’re right that luck and circumstances have more to do with your absolute success than anything. But relative success is often within your sphere of influence. Of the things you can control, your effort is most likely to be highly correlated with relative success. Sometimes the deck is stacked against you, and in those times just surviving requires phenomenal effort. But that’s still a form of success.

Get a nissan leaf and pay someone to rebuild it with a tesla motor powering the rear end and a pile of extra batteries in the boot.

Damn. I have a similar dream but there is no healthy car scene in my ENTIRE COUNTRY. In fact there are no good cars at all.

I’d get a Lexus IS300 or sc300 if that’s available for cheap and I’d modify that. These car’s often don’t get as much attention as the mark4 supra and is often slept on even if they have the same/similar 2jz engine. There are some other cars as well but for some reason these came to my mind, so I mentioned them.
