I have volunteered with Food Not Bombs in my city for six years. Many cities have their own branches. Food Not Bombs serves free vegan meals. As much as possible this food comes from food waste rescue. Many locations also distribute clothing, groceries, and hygiene products.

I’ve been doing FNB in Los Angeles for the last 6 months. The community is great and we get lots of great vegan produce rescued from Farmers Markets!

I volunteer in Kansas City, but like I said there are branches in most cities. I’ve visited groups in DC, Atlanta, Minneapolis, and Chicago. Here is a map, but I admit it is not up to date there are many inactive groups still listed on there. http://foodnotbombs.net/info/locations/

Do they use it in their cooking? I admit that if someone drops off non vegan products we set it out for people to take rather than discard it. But we keep the meals that we cook completely vegan. We’ve gotten offers of donations of raw cuts of meat. On top of going against our ethos this also seems like a major health and safety risk so we’ve directed them to other kitchens and pantries.

Lame! There’s not, like, a trademark on the name or anything but years ago there was an international meeting and serving vegan meal was pretty much the only rule that all the anarchists could agree to.

I do - kinda. It’s called different where I live (“Küche für Alle” - “Kitchen for All”) and is a commonly done by anarchists around events, meetups and more.

As the “for all” part implies it’s made so that anyone can safely participate so it’s 100% vegan. All the time. Great place to be, great thing to do - and a ton of stress-fun. :)

We commonly use rescued food and often - especially when we expect larger groups - we do rather simple meals (e.g. Aquafaba based Crêpes as a sweet dish, Falafel as a savoury option) but it’s always tasty and feels exceptionally good to do.

I have never heard of this before but I would be interested in learning more about it in my area. Thanks for sharing!
