3·3 days agoFair - how much does this idea overlap with colonialism in your mind? Usually we refer to colonialism as intervention for the sake of extraction, but it was/is often motivated through intervention for the sake of morals.

Hmm, do you think “good cultures” should interfere with “bad cultures” and stop them from their barbaric practices, teaching them the enlightened ways of the good cultures?

81·4 days agoJust to be clear,
Why the fuck do we torture these poor animals without limit before eating them?
That’s factory farming, not traditional whale hunting.
Eating wild animals from highly strained ecosystems is just plain stupid.
They’ve done this for centuries, this is not what is straining the ecosystem.
I don’t think it’s ethical to eat meat, just wanted these things to be clear.

Gotta find your way back to this vibe. There’s a lot of good out there, a lot to be grateful for. And on a long term timescale the world is in many ways better than ever before on important stuff like infant mortality.

I agree.
But the working class struggle that the comment mentioned is of course bigger than the genocide. Since they mentioned it, I wanted to learn more about their position. Discussing socialism and unionisation in the context of the class struggle does not diminish the genocide in Palestine.
I’m still not sure I follow what group counts as liberal on different parts of Lemmy, but does liberal to you include e.g. democratic socialists? Social democrats? Non-revolutionary socialist orgs?
Or are liberals free-market small-state types?
It was not at all meant as a gotcha. Let me reformulate: “Which issues in particular are you referring to? The class struggle leads to a plethora of important societal issues to address, and I am interested in hearing some particular examples. One such example could be the issue of unionisation, which holds a great deal of nuance across political contexts around the world, and therefore is a particularly interesting microcosm of this topic.”
If I had known that my question would be understood as hostile, I would certainly have put in more time to clarify what I meant. I’m still not sure why my question is hostile?

19·8 days agoThe Mount and Blade games feel like such a janky mess, and I don’t know anyone else that likes or plays them. But I absolutely adore the combat gameplay, nowhere else do I feel that merge between tactical medieval warfare and intense personal combat.
All the strategy/diplomacy/trading/RPG stuff on top is fine, but only as a context for the combat gameplay.
As in whether it should be owned by the workers, or whether it can be seized through non-violent means?
Fuck Zionists, but surely it’s bigger than that.

Thanks for the elaboration.
What might be a practical way to do it? The Faroese currently have a colonial overlord, Denmark, should they send police or armed forces to stop the slaughter by force? Or should the international community try with sanctions first?
Should we also intervene in e.g. cruel factory farming in other countries like the U.K. or France? Or at least stop the torturing of geese to make foie gras?
