A few months back I was visiting my retired parents, and I wanted to break the routine a bit and decided to sit at a lakeside table we never used because it was redundant.

As I walked up to the table and sat my stuff down, I heard a “FWOMP” followed by a sound I can only describe as “chitinous rubbing”. I slowly checked my surroundings until I noticed an almost basketball sized mass of wasps waking up that had fallen with part of a hive underneath the table. In a moment of extreme calculation I decided the only one of six things on the table worth risking stings for was the tablet, and I sprinted for the first time in years to get away.

So, I guess thanks to the wasps for the fun new core memory.

I’ve always been a particularly good Mercy player. It seemed odd to me because my standard playstyle is all-or-nothing dive dps.

Eventually I realized that I was aggressively attacking my teammates with healing. Subconsciously I think I see myself as on my own separate third team, and I’m blitzing them like a Genji and destroying their weakness before they can purposely commit suicide. When they all survive, it’s because I successfully thwarted my own team in their efforts to die.

I suspect in five years or so final exams will be a 1 on 1, face to face meeting with the teacher where they ask you some softball questions you should be able to answer easily if you did even some of the homework.

Unironically, if you aren’t capable of restructuring and consolidating other people’s ideas into your own format, how many modern office jobs are you even qualified for?

Growing up somewhere cold with usually just enough blankets, I would often need to wrap the blankets around me to fully trap the heat. When the sheets are solidly tucked in, you have to rip them out before you can wrap.

I am basically never comfortable in a made bed. If I visit a friend and the guest bed has the sheets tucked in, I have this low level subconscious response of “I guess that’s one more thing I have to deal with now.” Not that they are wrong for doing it, but it does grate a tiny bit versus sleeping at home.

  • The reason I stopped going there was their terrible app shunting my order to a location 10 miles away from the one I was standing in, the new one which I had never eaten at, then telling me in the help documentation that they offer the helpful solution of allowing me to fix it myself by putting in a whole new order at full cost. They didn’t even start making the food until I said I was there, so there’s no reason they couldn’t transfer or cancel the order. The audacity to pitch “just give us even more money” as a solution was more than I was willing to accept for all time. I drove my ass the ten miles while fuming, and never went back.

Also they cancelled the snack wrap.

Every time I’ve seen them in the news in the last ten years has just made me more secure in my decision to boycott. It’s like they find the food purchasing customers inconvenient to their real estate business.

  • I don’t have much to add to the actual question asked, I’m generally pro British food done right. I do want to mention that recently I found a British restaurant near my house in the US, and I’ve been watching too much GBBO so I had to get the apple pie, and it was the saddest thing I’ve ever eaten.

The apple pie was essentially an orb of wonder bread with a few slices of limp apple in the middle, and the whole thing was smothered in custard until soggy. Not one bit of sugar or anything resembling flavor to be found anywhere in the three ingredients. The apples were extremely gritty for some reason, it definitely wasn’t cinnamon.

I wanted to go full Karen and call the chef out to apologize for this food crime, but I’m not confident enough in my understanding of British food to say that isn’t authentic. If someone had made that on GBBO I’m sure they would have sent them home without even trying the rest of the food. I can imagine Paul going “Why is it so gritty?!”

  • I have the opposite problem. I learn how to make something I like, then I realize “Oh shit, I don’t need this much lasagna in my life. This is going to kill me. I must seal away the recipe forever.”

I was getting real good at cakes, had to stop for my health.

I limit my doomscrolling by using lemmy. After about an hour I hit the dregs of my “Top of last 12h” window, and there’s no reason to continue. Then, I am free.

I’ve been calorie counting for a while now, and one of the things I’ve found is that if you get one average burger and medium fries, the fries are often more calories. A medium fry at the place I ate yesterday is 560 kcal. Personally, I’d rather get a second sandwich.
