There is one thing for uber wealthy people to act poor but I dont care if a wealthy person finds happiness in a frugal lifestyle. Sharing in cultures is vital to the human experience.
The crazy thing is that i i were filthy rich, the only thing that would change is that i wouldn’t go to work anymore, and i’d probably invest in some sort of farm/weekly market where you can buy actually fresh and cheap veggies and things like that and i wouldn’t have to care if it makes money. So i totally get that aspect of it. But pretending to be a complete hippie and selling that lifestyle while you’re clearly not, just seems weird
See if there are any Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) orgs in your area, I used to go pick up a big box of produce every week at the farm where they grew them, was cool
There’s this weird in between that many sister in law lives in. She buys everything at thrift stores but it’s those trendy super expensive thrift stores lol
Buffalo Exchange and similar stores like that are between thrift stores and consignment stores, they purchase their products either from customers for store credit or cherry pick at real thrift stores then mark it up to sell at the trendy store. Everything there has to meet a specific aesthetic.
I think that is not necessarily true, just because they are wealthy does not mean they cannot then enjoy living frugally as a part of their chosen lifestyle.
But an essential part of “living frugally” is…being frugal. Co-opting the “style” of poverty while acting like you’re more spiritually enlightened for it while shelling out a fortune and constantly having a massive amount of money to fall back on while preaching frugality to a bunch of people who don’t have money is…gross.
And if you watch the video, this isn’t just “trustafarians,” but also about the systems hat have been put in place in developing nations to traffic children to attract wealthy foreigners to “voluntourism” in their area and profit off of that exploitation while these wealthy “po-mouthing” kids can’t post about how generous they are and talk about how it changed their life.
I don’t disagree with your sentiment taken in a vacuum, but gentrification (of housing and activities in general) is 100% a real thing and is almost always due to rich people trying to live a “frugal lifestyle.” Idk man, shit just sucks all around
Yeah, I get that but the complaint that these people with wealthy parents get to focus on art and lifestyle is a failure of the system not the person.
We should all be able to do that but only the wealthy can, so spread the wealth yeah but dont hate on arts and independent thought, trying new things and seeking an environment you enjoy.
I’ve no problem with people who can afford it focusing their lives around art, lifestyle, experiences etc.
What gets me is when such people describe it as some kind of moral choice and how people who aren’t doing that are somehow wrong, rather than “Oh my God I’m so exceptionally lucky to be able to live like this and will shut my fucking mouth to any judgement about other people who don’t have these opportunities because they’re busy trying not to be homeless”
i grew up poor. i am doing well. but the people aroppund me act like it’s a moral failing of my own that I didn’t spend 2-5 years backpacking around the world on my parents dime. I am ‘uncultured’ and ‘unambitious’ is what I constantly hear. OK… sorry I had to pay debts and build a career from the bottom because my parents didn’t give me a six figure job at their company…
i like my life a lot. i feel like i have ‘made it’. but a lot of folks were born into more wealth than I will ever have… and for folks like this… my life is unworthy and pathetic. I’ve literally been told that ‘your space at uni was wasted’ by these rich pricks because they think they deserve more than me for their luck at the birth lottery.
Yeah, and like it’s kinda weird to me because in part a lot of my higher ideas and art and shit comes from my struggle as a proletariat and as some who’s sat at the do or die stage of life while trying to sleep in a car in temperatures my area doesn’t reach anymore.
Like yeah, I’d love a break, but I need us to have a break, not me

Not trying to be a contrarian but a lot of hippies were from rich backgrounds which is why they didn’t have to work to begin with.

Farmers markets, there usually held on weekends around here, get fresh fruit and vegetables from local growers.
