Copying from my comment below for context:

Job openings like these are messing things up for creatives who specialize in one area.

Now everyone looks for video editors who do audio. No more jobs for sound guys.

If you do graphic design, you are now expected to do animation and web design as well. Some even want you to do social media and video.

People who post things like these only want to save a buck. Heck that’s why they outsource the jobs in say the Philippines and India. They don’t want to pay their local rates.

And some Asian folks like this too because the going rate is higher than local rate here.

But it’s literally ruining the livelihood of people in other fields.

I think they’re saying that each of those are different professions, which is why the job posting is made by a clown. That being said, there are 15 year olds with TikTok accounts who do all of these things, so it also sounds like someone who doesn’t know what a Social Media Manager does and criticizing the job posting.

Yep I really don’t think their asking that the person be a professional graphic designer and VFX producer.

Sounds like they want someone who can use imovie and canva.

They’re probably looking for someone who can spell “they’re” to fill their role there.

Oh come on you don’t need to downvote me for that. I’m not a professional on a computer, I’m a disabled bedridden person who is unable to use computers. Just let me exist please.

Nor am I a native english speaker :)

Edit: Lmao this guy went and downvoted every single one of my recent comments because of this.

Nobody needs more mod action, especially on stuff like this. Perhaps on CP or bots, but not really here.

You want lemmy to turn into Reddit and have a super power mod max perma ban you because you didn’t follow rule 54038 of the side bar, but actually it was because the mod didn’t like you and was having a bad day ?

Me personally I’d prefer someone salty downvoting every post and lose meaningless internet points than having mods riding everyone, increasing the likelihood of runaway abusive mods. The perfect is the enemy of the good enough.

Ive done all of those things in my current job, and they are unrelated to my actual job description. None of them are particularly hard. Heck, I’ve installed servers, welded mounting brackets, soldered components, run cabling, designed letterheads, built and maintained VM production servers in AWS, written software, visited clients, delivered goods, done sound design, edited video, written company policy, managed DNS records, and kept all the office plants watered and healthy. Im a technical writer. Some jobs just do be like that.

Sounds like you worked for some fucking stupid companies. Do what you’re hired to do, not be an entire IT department, custodian staff and administration. You are the only one losing in that situation.

Or maybe he’s worked for some small companies where none of those is a full time job and hiring 27 people to sit around for 97% of their time is not likely to be considered a terribly good business decision.

They pay me heaps, my job is interesting, I get to learn tons of new skills on their dime, and I average about 4 hours of actual work a day.

Also what sort of company would give access to managing DNS and deploying ec2 instances to someone not in an operations role. Easiest way to run up your bills by introducing misconfigurations which can cost a lot if not rectified quickly.

I’ve seen load balancer routing traffic across AZs unnecessarily where a single checkbox was not clicked, costing $500/month until it was discovered. Also devs who think they need a cluster of c5.2xlarge instances for a simple webapp, where most of the requests were serving javascript files, and needed to be moved to s3/cloudfront.

Well, I’m not incompetent at my job like that so its not really a problem.

The company is only 12 people, not a multinational.

I was a technical writer for a few years and it was the most technically taxing position I had, I was specifically the lead for writing proposals in our business unit. It really tested the breadth and depth of my technical knowledge. It was also not a good fit for me because I don’t have the “worry about execution later” bone that so many seemed to have, I refused to bullshit on something I wasn’t confident could be delivered. I ended up getting out of that line of work and my quality of life has improved measurably.

I actually really love my job. Its super chill. My boss pokes his head in my office maybe once a day to say hi. Otherwise, I put my headphones on and listen to music all day. The developers I’m in charge of do their jobs well and quietly. On days I want to WFH, I just do it. They pay me quite well.

That’s very similar to the dynamic at my job now, just technical lead/advisor and writing organizational policy. I love my current job, maybe it was just a bad experience or fit where I was.

Work environment is key, I think. On the few days when things start getting a bit hectic, I’ll tell my boss, and will deputise one of the other employees to me (just as he may deputise me to deliver goods if someone is sick or they need help). When I say "This task is taking a lot of my time, I think we should delegate it to someone else, he does it.

Sometimes, I stay late when I can and when I need to. In return, sometimes I leave early without telling or asking, my boss trusts me to make things ‘square’.

Most places aren’t like that. But when they are, things are so much more efficient.

it appears the guy works for an Asian satellite of a major advertising agency. Not an entirely unreasonable ask at small scale, but generally people are going to be really good at one item on that list, and sub-par on the rest.

I can use premiere, photoshop, illustrator and create pretty decent stuff, but I am nowhere near a pro.

Yea, replyer is most likely in advertising or marketing and where there is a job market for that, and is only seeing the world through their own eyes.
