It’s amazing to me that the Republicans haven’t messaged this as a win. They could easily say they out played the Democrats getting them to agree to fund DHS except the part that is already funded. I do think it’s going to be harder for the Republicans to pull these shenanigans after the mid terms.
It’s because everyone fucking hates ICE, the problem Republicans have is that their wins are tainted since they only appeal to their base if even that. Everyone else who isn’t batshit even more conservative folks see how much of a mess they are and shy away from it. I suspect this is why they are starting to show only MAGA polling now because if they polled any wider grouping that wasn’t self identified they’d show far far worse numbers.
It was a way of caving and not looking like they are caving. It’s honestly a win in the eyes of a majority of people that only half pay attention.

In the last reconciliation bill they gave ice an extra 70 billion for whatever so they have 2-3 years of funding without getting any new money.
