I think the main issue is that CP kind of normalizes it and associates it with regular porn while CSAM makes it clear how bad it is.

And secondly because the literal meaning doesn’t cover everything they want to apply it to. Drawn child porn is not “child sexual assault material” but they still want to use the same term, because for them purity tests are more important than making sense.
I think you are looking too deep into it. All I know is that experts who have made it their life’s work catching predators want us to use CSAM and think it might have an effect, I’m not going to give people grief over using it.

Are there really people dumb enough who think CP implies that the children consented to that?
I think CP is a simpler and clearer term than CSAM.
My advice is to know when to cut losses. If they don’t mean harm then just don’t reply to them, if they do mean harm then report them.
