I don’t even think this is a joke. That’s what Facebook is like. The people spreading actual bigoted animosity are fine as long as they don’t use specific words. It’s pathetic. I got banned for calling blatant homophobes pieces of shit, pretty sure the homophobes got off scot free

I got a temp ban on reddit for using “hateful speech” while being attacked for being gay. Those in power want to maintain power and are uninterested in fairness.

I’m sorry that happened to you. So shitty. I feel like they set these discrete rules because they want the easiest path to appearing fair and aren’t interested in the actual result of those rules. Even if the result is that horrible bigots go unpunished while rightfully angered victims are the ones banned.

It’s not just Facebook. It’s fucking everywhere. I mentioned in a post comment that fag-got* is a food in the UK and it got auto censored. I had a post deleted for being “offensive” because I asked if the UK is the US of Europe. It was light hearted. Silly.

But no, every fucker is determined to be offended by everything. It’s making commenting anything other than dry fact absolutely impossible. Sarcasm, banter, and even certain US-English words are outright banned even on non US sites and instances. Unalive, s*x, etc.

The internet has become fucking brain dead. Everything’s covered in padding so children don’t get a boo boo from naughty words. I’ve seen commentators reprimanded for replying to a kid with a swear word! “They’re a minor, watch the language”. Utterly fucking pathetic.

Where are the fucking adults? Or why are the adults so fucking precious? It wasn’t like this in 2010. People actually had skin.

Which is ironic considering I’m gay and British so not only is fagot not offensive but “puff” is worse yet I don’t demand people censor the fucking word! Do British instances censor spastic and Paki as much as the internet as a whole censors equivalent US English words?! American brain rot.

I joined Lemmy.ml since they were the creators. Thought it would be good to stick near the source. Bad choice—it’s made up of angry communists who attack you when you ask questions. Example: someone says they won’t vote for Biden and you ask what alternative they propose and then the personal attacks begin. It’s weird. I’m going to migrate elsewhere.

            Also:

            • Anything that mentions LGBTQ people
            • Anything that insults the US or its flag
            • Any religion that isn’t Christianity

            (Not an exhaustive list)

Yeah, I’m aware. Which is annoying as I’m a socialist liberal. I just want to be able to speak my mind without it being censored to hell and back by the cultural sensitives of a country an ocean away.

Similar can happen on Reddit, but on Reddit you can leave certain subreddits, or get banned in them and life moves on. However, Facebook is different breed. Facebook is like dedicated social network for those who are not accepted (and/or feeling unwelcome) by others in real life, so in Facebook you can find conspiracy theorists with the same ideas, boomers with the same ideas and racists with the same ideas.

So happy that I left facebook ~5 years ago.

Yeah. Facebook broke me in 2020. It was mostly antivaxxers, bigots, fascists, and conspiracy morons in every comment thread at that point. I couldn’t continue on that platform. The pieces of shit running that company give zero fucks that they helped destroy civilization and they should be in prison for it, no exaggeration.

I reported a dude posting an image that said “shoot your local heroin dealer”

They didn’t do shit. I requested review. They still didn’t do shit.

Guarantee if I posted one that said “lynch your local kkk member” I’d get banned

I have reported so many horrible assholes and I’m guessing only 20% of the time has anything been done about them. It’s pathetic. Insult somebody though, it’s the worst crime imaginable, even if they’re hinting that Hitler was right or whatever…

I don’t doubt it. I feel like they almost enjoy making those types of decisions. It’s so much easier to ask “is this sentence literally insulting?” Than to look at the context and judge the intent of the antagonist

Though there’s truth in your comment, it’s also troubling that you imply that the meme in the image isn’t actual bigotry.

It makes fun of a subset of people based on their race using a demeaning picture.

If someone posted one with a gorilla in a hat and said “this is what all black cops look like” would you still be here trying to defend it?

I get where you are coming from but it’s not fair to try and replace white with black, and to try is honestly not a great thing to do. It’s ignoring the centuries of anti black oppression and the centuries of white supremacy that underlies western society. Especially when cops have been instrumental in that oppression.

So the exact same thing isn’t racism when it’s directed at a race that has a higher score at being in the receiving end? Gotcha. That’s racist as fuck.

Right, yeah fat white cops now have endured hundreds of years of oppression! /s

I’m implying that people who are actual victims of hatred and fear for their lives are treated as equal to power tripping assholes who beat the shit out of those aforementioned victims. Because that is the type of thing I’ve seen it play out on social media over and over. Apparently you are in favor of that disgusting intentionally context-blind application of rules that empowers racists and punishes victims. Maybe lemmy isn’t for you.

The target of a specific behaviour has no bearing on whether it is okay or not. If you think it’s okay if the target is one demographic but not another you are being a hypocrite. If we want everyone to have the same rights we can’t stoop to behaviour we decry that others have been subjected to.

It actually does have all the bearing.

How effortless it is for you to completely ignore history and group an entirely harmless joke in with 400 years of oppression speaks volumes about your character. You’re fundamentally a morally disgusting person

Apparently you didn’t understand that I wasn’t talking about this joke at all. I don’t care about the joke, it’s not particularly funny nor problematic to me, feel free to find it funny yourself.

What I’m getting from your comment is that you’re saying it’s okay to treat people as shit if they are the “correct” target according to you. Because that is the only thing I was saying isn’t okay in that comment of mine. And that is a problem which makes a person morally disgusting. All people deserve the same rights, no matter what their circumstances are. You basically saying the opposite means your opinion is worthless to me. I hope you get a better life.

We are talking about this image. You cannot just randomly change the context, you smug bigot.

If you say this image is treating anyone like shit, well that’s all the evidence anyone needs to know you’re nowhere near a good faith argument and it just reinforces the already solid theory that all you’re concerned about here is protecting white people and/or cops.

I do not hope you “get a better life”, because bigots don’t deserve that.
