The only good thing about it is the subtext of “fuck you” to the film industry. The entire film was made out of spite and that is dripping from the script.

Yes, but it wasn’t really subtext. There is a scene where they literally say warner Bros would have done this with or without us…

But yeah, fuck the film industry for the most part.

Both Dunes, everything everywhere all at once, Oppenheimer, barbie, the DnD movie, spider-verse 2, puss in boots the last wish, the batman, the French dispatch, asteroid city. There are plenty more I’m sure, but those are the ones I could come up with off the top of my head.

              Don’t Look Up.

              Dune

              Dune 2

              Barbie

That’s all I got, but I just woke up. I’m sure there are more. It’s weird that two of them are remakes of a movie from the 80’s, which itself was a remake of a novel, and two of them are statements about our society. I suppose there’s a lot of discontentment in our society as of late.

Yeah I haven’t watched it yet, but that’s about the only recent movie I have even thought about watching.

Nah, I’m saying that’s all I could think of off the top of my head. I’ve mostly been watching series the last few years. They did a great job with Dune. Check it out! I’d watch the first immediately and then go see the second at the theater. It’s a great movie for the big screen.

Yea it’s definitely a unique vibe to watch a high-budget action film that basically doesn’t really want to exist and is chucking a fit about it.

For my money, as a fan of the original (being old enough to see it in the cinemas and experience as essentially my generation’s star wars IMO) … I actually enjoyed watching it once I realised it wasn’t really a proper film but some sort of riff on a feeling.

Additionally, I actually appreciated the core in-universe premise of the film, which I think gets forgotten or overshadowed by everything else about the film.

I was reading this headline and thought they would make a fourth now. Guess I missed something, and apparently that’s not a bad thing.

I think at this point, the film industry just makes whatever and as long as people show up to the theatre and party their streaming bills, they get away with it.

From a data perspective, we love reboots and franchising because we all watch em.

There is no 4th matrix movie.

There is either a complete abomination of a thing masquerading as a matrix film, or a wonderful bit of protest art mocking the big studios. Which it is depends on your view.

It is absolutely dripping with hate for the studio. I’m honestly shocked it was released in that state.

For those who haven’t seen it, the story has Neo and Trnity having been returned to the Matrix, where Neo is famous for having created “The Matrix” franshise (initially as a game).

Now the software company is out of ideas, so they’ve decided they need to reboot the Matrix and tell Neo that the project is moving forward with his input or without it, but that if he does it they’ll give him creative control.

Then more stuff happens and it gets worse, but it has zero subtlety about how and why the film exists and that nobody involved really wanted to make it. So they make the best of a bad situation bh throwing the bird at the studio.

I appreciated that part. I highly recommend pirating the film so that the studios don’t make any money off it.

DON’T! Tell a different story set in the universe. Preferably at a different time. The stories from the Animatrix could be explored further.

So my ex and I went to the theatres with the intention of having sex during a movie, and we picked out cabin in the woods.

We were the only people there, except for an older guy a couple rows ahead of us.

We started messing around in the beginning, but ended up stopping (kind of) and watching the whole thing. The whole premise was pretty cool, the old gods and shit.

    But the matrix?

They should have stopped after the animatrix…

I just watched resurrection for the 2nd time, and holy fuck. The meta shit explaining they made the movie cause it was either them or wb is gonna do it was fuckin stupid. The whole love angle seemed SUPER stretched too…

I almost wonder if it would have been better without any of the original cast.

I also wanna know how much screen time was spent on flashbacks to previous movies.

I can’t wait to ignore abother steaming pile of shit coming out of hollywood.

Trinity and Neo never had any chemistry in any of the movies, so the stories being centered around their unbreakable love always seemed dumb to me. It’s just an extra part of the core story that doesn’t need to be there at all.

This is my fandom, my holy trilogy.

The last movie was the original creator basically trying to sabotage the franchise, as was basically stated in the movie several times, and still, our late stage capitalists demand that nostalgia money from by digging up and raping the honored corpse of a brilliant and completed narrative. They won’t get mine.

Still, if the l Cabin in the Woods director has any sense at all, he will attempt a reboot and tell the story through a new lense… if David Zaslav, enemy of art, labor unions, and companies actually providing products/services instead of profit by tax cheats and cheaply made “Reality” garbage lets them.

The android, named B1-66ER, kills its owner, his pets, and a mechanic instructed to deactivate the robot, the first incident of an artificially intelligent machine killing a human. B1-66ER is arrested and put on trial, but justifies the crime as self-defense, stating that it “simply did not want to die”.

        Preach.

I like the one about the runner, and the fact that people can break themselves out of the matrix if they are strong enough. I think they said there was a couple, was the Kid one of them? Give us more stories like that!

Also Matriculated was the first thing to show that the machines can join the humans side, prolly where they got the premise for resurrection.

If you like matriculated, watch the YouTube video I posted in another comment.

But yeah, if you like the premise of the matrix and haven’t seen all of the animatrix shorts, give them a watch.

Ah yes, “self-substantiation.” I also liked how it intentionally added to the mythos of the kid that was nodded to in the movies, sort of a lesson in there is no single path to enlightenment/ascension.

Yes! I knew there was a name for it but I haven’t nerded out on the matrix in a while.

I don’t really wanna write for wb, but a cool idea would be that the matrix patched the ability to take a red or blue pill, so they have to come up with a new way, some kind of Dmt smoking shit that catapults you out of your pod.

Another new way to self-substantiate would be cool. We’ve seen the kid jumping off the roof and the runner running, maybe something like ego death? Massive lsd trip gets you out?

I could see that too, perhaps a plot about a drug that forces either self-substantiation or death.

I think it’s about drastically defying what the system predicted you could do, be it outrunning your own perceived physical limitations, or just as with the jump skill, fully committing to the unreal nature of the world like the kid.

We got a glimpse at how the architect governed the Matrix, and we can clearly see he’s obsessed with pattern prediction and it’s role on system stability, "as you adequately put, the problem is choice"

My pet theory about self-substantiation is that it comes out of a user causing an error of extreme, logic defying, committed choice that could bring down portions of the entire system because everything and everyone is interconnected, leading to emergency expulsion.

Close. The latest one is Fast X, which is actually the 11th movie.

I’ve seen the first three or so when they first came out. I don’t really hate the series as such, but loathe the wider cultural impact that it had. For example, it ruined racing video games for quite a while. Everything suddenly needed to have modded rice rockets with underbody lights, driven by annoying dickheads with boring, cliche back stories. It effectively ruined the Need for Speed series.

If Lana Wachowski is executive producer how does that fit with the hypothesis of the last one being bad on purpose to kill the franchise out of desire to not make matrix movies anymore?

Also that guy Goddard has a okay-ish resume, idk. If they leave the existing plot alone and create new stuff within the universe, it may be not terrible?

But also fuck warner and zaslav, who even believes or trust them on anything anymore? First thing that comes to mind is that this must be a ploy to bundle up resurrection as an ongoing loss and claim a bigger tax break.
