Alternative title: Dinosaurs wouldn’t be that big if they weren’t that big

Dog-sized dinosaurs are one of the most popular animals on the planet right now, so much so that they’re the default flavor “everything tastes like.”

I don’t think chickens are usually referred to as “dog-sized” even if it’s occasionally true.

Yeah I mean, I know dogs come in a wide range of sizes, but I feel like default dog is a lot bigger thanks default chicken.

Man, animal protection organisations weren’t kidding when they said poultry chickens are MASSIVE

But if all dogs are as big as dinosaurs, then Clifford is no longer special. He’s no longer Clifford the Big Red Dog. He’s then just Clifford the Normal Sized Red Dog. I just don’t think he’d be as big of a deal in that universe.

I guess he’s still got the red thing going for him?

But he’s a dinosaur-sized dog that is arguably more popular than most non-dinosaur-sized dogs.

Those elephant-sized sloths seem pretty cool.

Wrong. I for one would love to have a minibronto. Or a lap-diplodocus. Or a triceratops named Spikey.

Hell, Archaeropteryx would look great perched on the curtain rod like a small parakeet.

And if you have rodent issues in your house, just unleash the T-rex. On that note, does Latin have a diminutive form of “Rex” ?

Plus, imagine the two playful Pachycephalosauri bumping their heads together all the time, with an audible click every time they did.

Also, who wouldn’t want an aquarium or a fish pond inhabited by a Nanolodon?

      Microraptors, even.

Which they made bigger in Jurassic Park, so that’s actually proving the point. A bigger raptor species was only discovered after the first movie.

Doesn’t it demonstrate that the actual dinos in real life don’t have to be big to be popular, because humans will simply portray them how they want to see and bring interest in the species regardless?

Another hot take: Marshmallows wouldn’t be that popular if they were savoury like cabbage

Another bonus hot take: Summer wouldn’t be that popular if it was cold like winter

They’d be popular, sure. But no way as popular and in public imagination as all the behemoths.

Like, there were a ton of dog-sized dinosaurs. You’ve never seen or heard of most of them.

I know lots of people that own corgis. I don’t know anyone that owns a dinosaur. Guess that means corgis are more popular?

I do. It’s somewhat more common with people living in more rural areas than in the city, but I’d guess they’re the third most popular pet after cats & dogs.

They were small like dogs too. Remember that scene in Jurassic Park where all the little dinosaurs ganged up on Hammond and ate the shit out of him? Or was that just in the book… Well either way there were small dinosaurs. They just don’t get as much press.

I dunno. I grew up around a lot of horned lizards and they are awesome. Bump them up to small dog size and they’d still be awesome, though significantly more dangerous.
