I kekked at the lieutenant and how it’s said in the US and in the UK, with the “leftenant” one being used when the full pip is on the left

Sub Commander? Is Starfleet in charge of operating submarines on water planets?

I mean there was that one episode where Tom took the Delta Flyer into the water planet like a submarine.

But also T’Pol was a subcommander, albeit in the Vulcan High Command.

See Picard in the anti-timeline from “All Good Things”.

      The ship has matter/antimatter injectors.

So the captain is in charge of the matter. And the anticaptain is in charge of the antimatter. It’s pretty straightforward.

You eat them before dessert at the captain’s dinner. Like how down in the engineering mess they serve pasta and antipasto.

Lol … thanks for mentioning it because when I first flashed through the list I thought it was …

      Anticipation

This is funny and all, but does anyone have a link to the actual guide to Starfleet ranks?

Probably memory alpha is the best bet. The actual on screen canon is kind of slippery though. For example, O’Brien’s title of “Chief” is never really clarified very much. (He is potentially the first enlisted member of Starfleet to get any level of characterization.)

And every series likes to redesign the uniforms.

There should be a wag the dog story about a captain taken hostage who uses his pins in rare communications to morse-code the coordinates to the viewer while the enemy doesn’t know the ranks and only occasionally notices that the pins aren’t the same as yesterday.

Only for the other side to subsequentially promote them to a Decorated Grade-A Admiral of the Quadrant in Chief 8-days-in-8-hours Research and Medical Engineer of Friday Night Alamo Roleplaying and the Borg Pong Champion of the Star Fleet making them 16-pin worthy to speed things up.

Subsequently inspiring a drinking game of repeating made-up ranks with adding another one among ensigns.

TIL Commode Door is a rank. Is that role tasked with containing the dark humours?

    Inb4: yes, I know it’s “commodore.”

I saw this earlier today, quickly glanced at it and didn’t realise it was so much satire. P in Morse code haha the commode door

The more I look, the better it gets.

    Super-ensign

That almost sounds legit. I can see someone thinking “well, they’re not promotion material, but they’re also far-and-away the best Ensign we have on the whole ship…”
