I worked in IT for a bit and the automatically generated emails were first initial last name

With manual adjustments in some cases, such as Sarah Hart (shart@…)

My company users first letter of the name and the full surname. I thought it was odd when I saw Gina.Ross@… Until I realized.

Once saw hadcock@example.com at an employer. On the other hand Hannah thought it was hilarious.

Hmm, that’s probably enough to dox myself to ex-collegues.

Oh, duh. As a person who’s had the same firstletterlastname format email at a company I’ve worked at, I should’ve realized that lmao

Mostly I get given my first name or full name. Getting just firstname@company.com feels pretty awesome when it’s a common-ish name too.

Unfortunately that’s always been in small orgs lol

Though in one that grew rapidly, I was in the last batch of people whose mugs had no last names on them. I think my employment contract was like #80 or something and 3 years later when I left, there were like 200 or 300 people working there

It’s just an invitation to use the Unix finger utility to find user info on them. Like a shortcut to a profile.

I have always made a .plan file on every unix-like system I have been on. Just in case I get fingered. Heck, even my at home single user devices have a .plan. Just to give the hackers a treat.

I really hope she was able to get a different email. Cause after this has made the rounds on the internet theres no way that address is even usable anymore.

And then you’re suspended for an offensive username.

Is this a US university? I’d imagine this Megan Finger here could sue for millions of punitive damages for getting such a username.

Contact IT and get it change. There’s no way this is worthy of a lawsuit, let alone something worth million.

Most states have laws saying there has to be a chance to take a simple remedy first. So your case would likely get thrown out if you didn’t go to IT and try first. It’s when you give them the opportunity to fix it and they refuse that you get rich.

even without such a law everyone’s going to think you’re an idiot anyways and not bother with your nonsense, always get evidence in writing.

I’ve heard you guys hate puns, but dedicating a whole lawsuit type to them is a bit over the edge, IMO…
