Its the same bullshit that’s been going on for ages.

Young actress grows up, people think they have an obligation to look and act how their idea of the now adult actress is rather than them being themselves.

It happens to pretty much all young performers, but girls get it worse because sexism and patriarchy amplify it.

She’s damn near 21 now. She’s married and moving into an adult life and some people are idiots. They expect her to either stay that little girl, or at least not act adult in public.

I was so confused by this post, and it turns out I was conflating some celebrity I’d never heard of with a Julie Brown (who was famous maybe 30 years ago).

Then I googled Millie Bobby Brown and am confused again: She looks like a typical early 20something, which she is?

        Yup, she is just that.

She’s the girl from Stranger Things.

But people don’t think about her as the girl that was on stranger things, they keep her in that mental slot as though she wouldn’t age.

          Oh shit, the psychic kid?

Stranger Things wasn’t that long ago!

          I’m not old, you’re old!

Ok, sorry, I checked and it was that long ago.

Not sure when this happened, but it turns out I am old.

          Damn it…

At 21 you can drink, drive (though not at the same time), vote and be drafted (if you’re a guy). If that’s too young to be married, we need to work on that other stuff first.

Seriously, it isn’t even an unusual age for it, much less “ew”

21 is real young dude, just because you can doesn’t mean you should. I would say I didn’t feel truly like an adult that understood myself or my actions until 25 or 26

Eh, everyone’s different. I’ve known a lot of people that married younger than that, are still together, and happy.

It’s entirely possible to grow together.

Emma Watson reported that paparazzi camped out in front of her house the day she turned 18 in order to catch a legal upskirt photo.

She turned 18 a couple years after upskirt photos became illegal in Brittain. Not so sure about the timing of similar laws in the US, I just remember the press about it during the aughts.

To be fair, I thought she was a few years older than she is, so I had to look up the the timing of it all, but I also thought “legal upskirt photos” were a more ancient matter as well.

Every once in a while I hear about one of these creepfests but I never seem to come across them in the wild.

      I guess I’m doing something right. 😑

What kinds of answers are you actually expecting to this? Millie Bobby Brown has been an adult for several years by now.

Its hard for me to not see lemmy getting worse since it became popular last year. If this kind of vitriol about celebrities is reaching lemmy. I don’t know if I want to be part of it.

This post was the first I’ve seen about it on Lemmy, or anywhere. Who are you people who haven’t realized the cancer that is /all, whether here or that other place?

I’m just trying to save you from eye-rot. If the concern of others bothers you, that’s not my problem.

There’s hard truth, and there are people fixated on celebrity gossip. The latter contributes nothing to the former.

I Subscribe nearly every community I see come up on c/newcommunities(On which instance you say? My answer: YES, to any instance that has a /newcommunities, I’ve subscribed all of them that I am aware of), never touch /all, and still find myself able to answer any and all questions like OP’s when they aren’t relating to irrelavent or indeschipherable garbage-topics. That’s the hard truth.
