So if in two years when there is multiple rape allegations they will claim “but we did a background check. No idea where this was coming from!”
It is obvious that they just are trying to avoid more “Well, this person is clearly compromised but we have to give them a clearance anyway”
That said: The point of the background investigation is to identify things that people can be compromised by. So… if it is public knowledge and they already escaped any and all consequences… Kind of a spirit, if not letter, of the law thing.
