Good vs Evil. A story as old as time itself. It’s a story of a legitimate basketball game, played by the greatest basketball players of all time, as told from the perspective of a Harlem basketball fan.

I’ve very recently gotten into wrestling (partly because it’s on Netflix, and partly because my 6yo nephew loves Cody Rhodes).

I’ve never in the past given it any credit because it was fake. But watching it now, the fact it’s basically a soap opera does not detract from how fun it is at all

When I was growing up, all my friends were into professional wresting (and also thought it was real).

It is kinda. While the exact dialogue isn’t scripted in detail, and there’s some improvisation, there’s a pretty consistent narrative in each performance.

However, a play is more than just a story performed by actors for the capture of emotion. (And, tbh that’s not the only purpose of a play). There’s the trappings of it, and the location options.

And you could argue that not all actors are athletes, but all globetrotters are; conversely, not all globetrotters are actors. They do indeed perform, but they don’t always emote, or even speak lines.

    Damn good shower thought :)

Part of some theatre 101 classes will ask a similar question.

    • Is it still a performance if there’s no audience?

    • is it still a performance if all the actors are robots?

    • is it still a performance if it’s in public and people think it’s real? (eg prank shows)

    Or an improv troupe, really.
