Heya - I should be able to get the game thread bot up and running in the next couple of weeks, though maybe not for the first preseason game.

I don’t think we really need scheduled threads for anything else yet, given that most are designed to prevent post traffic overload. That’s not really a problem here yet :)

Hi I’m a mod at Kansas City Chiefs who’s never made a auto-moderator bot or anything like it. Any tips on how where I should start?

The bot I’m working on is open source- unless you are really interested in getting into modding, I can help you get it set up and running once it is ready. It has a nice web interface and is fairly user friendly.

That would be amazing! Thank you very much for your reply and offer to help! Please let me know when it’s ready.

Got watch the threads at /c/[email protected]. This link isn’t working on lemmy.world, but your instance should be ok. I’m testing the bot using the Texans / Pats game today.

I think having a thread each week for people to talk about rankings would be cool

Probably don’t need a lot of them yet, their need grows with the size of the community. Get into the millions and they become 100% necessary to preserve basic function of your sub, otherwise conversation gets splintered into a bunch of mini threads and dies off from lack of engagement, because mini threads suck.

But, draft. SuperbOwl run-up. That’s about it off the top of my head.

Don’t want too many early on, because there’s a balance where you want people making threads, so the community gets more exposure. Though I guess this sub probably won’t suffer from a need for exposure, now that I think about it. But a little more can still be nice to boost growth early on.

    Redzone game threads for sure!

But yeah other than what was already said, I don’t think we need much more right now.

Hiya! Game threads are really what I would appreciate the most.

Also, as a mod of !kansascitychiefs, how are you guys making game threads? Do they have to be manually made each time?

We have a couple of bots (that aren’t working yet lol). I have users on c/nba and c/Phillies that made game bots that work well that I’m going to try to get on it

Would you be opposed to users making game threads until the bot is up? I was wishing we had one for the HoF game but didn’t want to overstep my bounds by making one myself.

Nope, go ahead and post it if one isn’t up. I absolutely meant to do it, just got caught up working and never had a chance until too late but I should be good for future games

Not really a thread recommendation, but the thing I really miss here relative to Deddit is some easy-to-configure notion of which team I support. It doesn’t have to be the same flairs that other place has even a text banner would do. But I think my jokes about Aaron Rodgers conducting a season-long Darkness Retreat in New Jersey would go over much better if you can see my Bills fandom whenever I post.

Maybe it’s a Lemmy feature I just haven’t found, though.

I agree that we may be too small for weekly threads, but I wouldn’t mind having a bot that posts all the signings and trades. Basically any roaster moves.

The Game Hub thread on /r/NFL was amazing. It was easily the best way of seeing which games were actually playing, when the next ones started, what the current scores are etc. Then links to the individual game threads for more detail.

If you’re watching Redzone or even just debating whether to switch on the TV it was awesome. Even just for a summary Monday morning of everything that happened.
