… I could go onHonestly I think your first mistake was respecting celebrities.
Why? I can’t respect someone if I don’t know who someone is and what they’ve done. Celebrities are public figures, it’s easy to respect them or not. That’s basically what they’re for.
You don’t have any actual idea about what they’ve done though. They might talk a bit about the good parts but they’re literally professionals at playing a character, so how are you going to trust that?
I’m not gonna lie, there are celebrities that I like and I think they’re probably alright. But I find it hard to respect someone (beyond basic human decency) when I haven’t even met them face to face or even in a one on one phone call.
Exactly. I have plenty of people that I respect and know personally, but you don’t know them. So it would be moot to talk about them here. Kevin Spacey and Neil Gayman I respected specifically for their work in acting and writing respectively. They very notably fell from grace, everybody knows about it. Russel Brand I respected for his attitude and his personality. It was all an act, of course, but that made it even more respectable in my opinion. It was a very good performance and a unique style. Than he fell the same way the other two did. That’s, of course, the common denominator in this list. The way they abused their status and lost all respect.
You can respect their work, but respecting a person is a different thing to me, something impossible without getting to know them in detail. Hell, I have people I consider friends, or at least acquaintances, whom I don’t respect (again, beyond basic human decency).
There are few people I respect. I know they choose the correct option without fail, they have shown to not only have their heart at the right place, but also to act accordingly.
Hearing someone famous talk in interviews will never allow me to check all the boxes for true respect. I will never be able to ask them the uncomfortable questions to do so.
I really don’t get why people care about celebrities that much.
