This is just a repackaged joke from an other comic that came out 2 weeks ago, but much worse. Very ironic.

He has a couple of these with cameos where he specifically calls them “[character] from [show]”. It’s a good bit. IIRC, he is dating or flirting with the char in all of them lol.

The AI joke has been around much longer than that but yes, nothing beats Adam Ellis’ uhh… unique takes on these things.

One, the problem with AI isn’t that it copies people. It’s that it literally can’t not copy people

Two, people come to the same joke all the time. That’s not proof of joke theft

Three, and this is really important. Unless you’re from an Alanis Morissette song, that ain’t irony. Like not even close. Cue the music

      Edit: wrong homophone

feedback: this is a really busy comic and uses a strawman as its main premise, and the outrage within it feels forced

        im too lazy to learn

I work a technical job by day and have several hobbies that involve learning

        how to do anything

I learn new things every day, as part of my job and as apart of my hobbies

        how to do anything correctly

The websites I’ve made with it and scripts I’ve run with it work and work well

I understand you don’t like AI but there’s no need to be cranky

Just talking about my field specifically, but LLM agents are used in educational institutions to support students with both the course and admin sides of things. They’re doubly handy because they’re also used to collate all of the interactions and identify common blind spots and flag students that are at risk of failing.

I would absolutely not call using a stochastic text prediction machine that has been repeatedly exposed for bias related to gender, age, race, language and topic/context a good thing when applied to students’ grades.

I used it to make a website that shows daily excessive electricity generation resulting in negative pricing in Australia here: https://sw.ikt.id.au/

I also made my own self hosted imgur which I use to upload images (and compress them) and videos:

I’ve also used it to create scripts that have saved me hundreds of hours of work

I also think this song is pretty funny: https://suno.com/song/978f2814-221d-40a7-adc4-f31d0d1bed43

        So that’s 4 things (at least) 😅

that’s a front end library you’ve connected to a database/API. We could do that before AI.

And we’ve had web hosting and imagemagick for compression for a long time.

the process you’re describing is paying someone to assemble ikea furniture for you and calling yourself a carpenter. It’s a shortcut.

I have used a microwave to save me hundreds of hours of cooking, it doesn’t make me Gordon Ramsey.

“It existed before” and some kind of stolen valor argument? Who the fuck cares, what’s your actual point. No one is calling themselves Torvalds or wtv while vibe coding anyways, the whole comment is just emotional whining and goal post shifting.

“name one good thing that you can make your machine”

“it can add peanut butter and jelly to bread”

“we had that, it was called a knife”

“yes but this machine works by pouring arsenic into the water supply!”

I dont care about the stolen valor I’m saying this machine did something we could already do slightly faster at a massive social and environmental cost.

Name one good thing a food processor has made. That’s what you sound like.

Fyi, an AI request is about 1 second of microwave use. I’m guessing you never use a microwave, a minute worth would be more than my daily use of energy with AI.

We’re past the point where you can pretend AI doesn’t have multiple massive negative impacts. Sure, your individual use is not a problem on its own. But the models you used had to be trained. Future models need to be trained. And that cost must also be considered in each of your queries. You’re still participating in normalizing and justifying the existence of AI. All while they extract value from you and others they never got permission from.

Well, I guess we’ll just see who was right in 20 years when we’re overwhelmed by the flood of climate caused migration while at the same time having lost the ability to have any independent thought.

Everyone knows you can’t microwave a lettuce and expect a salad, but Gordon Ramsey does use a microwave. So do I, and I never claim I’m a chef. But my food is better than the food produced in a million restaurants world wide. Still can’t exactly mimic the Mac sauce yet, but I bet an LLM could help with that
