Several members of ‘The Freedom Caucus’ have openly admitted they won’t end the shutdown unless all the federal cases against Trump are ended.

Then it’s gonna suck to be in the Military or Border Patrol, and have to report for duty without pay. Especially when Congress will get paid.

There were about 1.4 million active military personnel in 2022.

CBP (U.S. Customs and Border Protection) has more than 60,000 employees.

WIC served about 6.3 million participants each month in fiscal year 2022, including an estimated 39 percent of all infants in the United States. https://www.ers.usda.gov/topics/food-nutrition-assistance/wic-program/

Elected officials should be the last to get paid with no back pay if they allow this shit to happen willingly like this.

That’s the thing they get paid. They however shouldn’t be allowed to leave the building until the shutdown is over and they reach a deal.

No where else can you completely fail and your job and keep it.

You get used to it. Republicans shut down the government every 2-4 years.

No the temper tantrum is pretty much constant at this point. That’s how the GQP thrive, whip up their base to get angry against an imaginary bogeyman. Gay people, trans people, minorities, abortions, dems taking away guns, socialism, whatever. It’s like that meme, they don’t want to be informed they want to be angry.

It’s getting so bad that republicans are having temper tantrums from shit other republicans do (or in this case, don’t do.)

It’s hilarious. Geatz seriously needs to realize that if he doesn’t play ball and compromise…. McCarthy is gonna go with the dems. Which means compromise in the wrong direction; from his point of view.

I think the threat from Groomer Gaetz is if McCarthy compromises with Dems, Gaetz will initiate a recall on McCarthy.

                  well… yeah.

but that’s not going to go anywhere. Gaetz doesn’t have the votes to replace him. Gaetz does that… and that’s even more influence and compromises with the dems. All this is going to show that the idiots in the freedom caucus don’t understand the basic functions of the job.

What would happen if all border guards just said “Well, I’m not getting paid, I’m not going to work.” and just left the gates open? 🤔 I think that would solve the shutdown real quick!

As a practical matter, it would mean international flights to the US are halted. If you will recall the last time there was a shutdown and it appeared that TSA agents were going to walk off the job due to not being paid, they reached an agreement to end the shutdown pretty quickly.

That’s the thing though, the investigations are exempt from the shutdown and will continue regardless of what happens. This is a complete self-own by the Republicans

I mean, they’re all shit, but I found this part interesting:

McCarthy’s outside counsel earlier this week sent a cease and desist letter to the person soliciting influencers to bash Gaetz and claiming to be doing so on behalf of McCarthy, according to a copy of the letter obtained by CNN

Which to me, reads like Gaetz is setting up a social media false flag on McCarthy’s side, which is an insane level to stoop to for pointless in-party infighting.

We tried, not enough evidence. His dirtbag buddy was expected to flip once he caught a guilty verdict. He did not. The girl in question won’t testify and, because she now has on OnlyFans page, the prosecution didn’t want her to anyway. You can imagine how the defense would tear into her.

So, that’s that. We got nothing and it’s over. To top it all off, his seat is perfectly safe down here. Even at the height of his troubles, there were Gaetz signs all over my hood.

I don’t know how it would pass constitutional muster, but I think in the event of a shutdown all federal representatives (and families) should have all positive financial transactions except for their congressional pay be put in a low yield bank account and only released to the representative once the transaction has be audited by a non-essential federal auditor; a.k.a, you have to live on ONLY your salary until the shutdown is over.

    • @Tujio

Why should they get their salary? This is happening because they didn’t do their damn jobs.

Because most are filthy rich well in excess of the salary, and so this scheme would be an actual punishment, while not depriving those few who actually need their congressional salary to live.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

“I asked him whether or not he was paying those influencers to post negative things about me online,” Gaetz told CNN’s Manu Raju – and confirmed that McCarthy said he wouldn’t waste time on him.

With only three days to go before government funding expires, House Republican divisions have been on full display with the conference at odds over the path forward as Congress barrels toward a shutdown.

House Republicans are planning late night votes Thursday on a series of separate spending bills, though it’s not clear if the measures have enough GOP support to pass and at least one is expected to fail.

On the other hand, if any of the spending bills fail, GOP leadership may point to that to make the case to the holdouts that a short-term funding extension is the only viable path forward.

McCarthy has been saying all week this was the plan but as the hardliners have dug in, it remained an open question if he’d go through with it, risk a potentially embarrassing vote and be seen as unable to pass a bill out of his chamber before a Saturday midnight deadline.

A shutdown could have enormous impacts across the country, in consequential areas ranging from air travel to clean drinking water, as many government operations would come to a halt, while services deemed “essential” would continue.

The original article contains 1,331 words, the summary contains 225 words. Saved 83%. I’m a bot and I’m open source!

Can’t we just fire them all? POTUS, SCOTUS, all of the Senate, all of the House, and replace them all with robots?

      • @morphballganon
        link

More precisely, the SCOTUS members who overturned Roe, the house members who voted to not impeach Trump after the insurrection, and the senate members who voted to not remove Trump from office after the 2nd impeachment.

That would fix things quite neatly.
