This comments section seems to be suffering from the “I like pancakes” “oh so you hate waffles?” disease. I don’t think you need to disclaimer “use painkillers responsibly” OP, it goes without saying.
I kinda thought the depiction of Shadow the Hedgehog and the mixed fonts, not to mention the link to the tumblr account showing this is not OC, would be enough to alert people that I’m not serious, but … that’s on me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
People are treating ibuprofen like it’s fentanyl in this thread lol. It’s reasonably safe and when used like a regular person knows how to use them poses very little risk of damage to your body. The meme is funny and the message is fine, don’t feel bad OP
Nuh uh, if you take even one advil, you’ll get pregnant and die! Your liver will fall out of your body and you’ll be on the streets, suckin dick just to buy the generics.
By the gods, you improved it
PSA: It is possible to get stomach ulcers if you consistently take ibuprofen for too long. This is dangerous because these ulcers have a risk of becoming cancerous.
I was ulcerated because of undiagnosed chronic pain that was not taken seriously until I fucked up my stomach by taking max dose of ibuprofen for months to deal with the unending pain and suffering. Don’t do that. Instead, find a doctor who gives a shit if you can afford it, or take CBD or marijuana if you can’t.
Yeah honestly in spite of its risks, marijuana has relatively few side effects compared to many alternatives, as long as you don’t try to operate heavy machinery or something wild like that.
Not physical pain in my example, but it’s helped my husband immensely with his PTSD since he was given his med card. Total game changer!
And I say that as someone who’s not a huge personal fan, recreationally
I guess everyone’s different but I’ve never understood people that don’t pop a cheeky Paracetamol or Ibuprofen when they get a headache. If it’s just every now and then I really don’t see the harm, but I’ve met quite a few people who don’t like taking them for some reason. I’ve never pressed them on it because it seems rude.
I don’t get headaches very often, though, so I guess if they’re very common I could understand wanting to keep the pills for only when they’re really bad or something.
I’ve had the same bottle for a couple years now, but my understanding is it’s reasonably safe. I’ve never personally known someone who’s succumbed to ibuprofen addiction lol
They’re not addictive, but it can be kind of hard on your liver if you’re taking a lot, and I think NSAIDs can cause stomach ulcers (again, if you’re taking a lot).
I get headaches almost daily so I try to be careful, but I still take pain killers because they kill pain.
here in sweden at least the packages just say to not take more than 3 pills per day and to seek help if you want to take them for more than a week straight.
Yeah, I can definitely understand if it’s a daily thing. It would suck to get headaches everyday.
I had a knee injury a little while back and was in really bad pain and I was prescribed something that was basically a very strong ibuprofen, and it was great but after a while my gut felt so bad, fortunately the two weeks or so was really all I needed.
Privation fetish. I have a bit of it tbh. The feeling that you need to be able to weather hard times, for… reasons? Like you level up your endurance stat by withstanding pain or some shit lol
Unless you’re pregnant, then do not take NSAIDs!
ibuprofen gives me unbearable tummy aches :(
Needs to be taken with food, AFAIK
i’ve never heard of this, nor anyone having any sort of side effect from ibuprofen.
the package i have in front of me says it has lactose monohydrate in it, maybe y’all are just from places with lactose intolerance and that’s why people get tummy aches?
Shadow sends his condolences 🙏
I’m a bit surprised it doesn’t upset mine everything else seems to
You’re not my mom! I’ll do what I want!
Ever since I saw the Chubbyemu YouTube video of a guy chowing down on 1200 ibuprofen in a single month and living through it, I’m no longer afraid to pop one or two on an achey day
Yeah some people are in such desperate pain and lack access to healthcare that I could see someone taking so many a month
Please dont take pain meds for minor pains
Edit: thank you for correcting me, i looked up stuff yall said and it turns out to be true and I was wrong.
That’s literally what ibuprofen and Tylenol are for though
You know what
now I’m really convinced that a nurse swapped out fentanyl for saline after my surgery a couple years ago.
It hurt way too fucking much that I thought that ibuprofen would be more effective. “gave him the max dose” my ass
You’re not gonna get addicted to ibuprofen and risks to your kidneys or stomach lining are only worth consideration for regular long term use (2+ weeks of daily use) or for those with contraindicating health issues. Take the ibuprofen. This IS medical advice
I only take it when I feel a migraine coming on, which is far from minor, but you’re right
Why not?
Please don’t disguise fear mongering as medical advice
i mean it depends on what is meant by minor pain: hit your head on a cupboard? yeah just wait 10 minutes and you’ll forget about it.
stomach ache that’s been persistent for half an hour and is making it annoying to do anything? just pop a pill so you can go about your life, it’s fine.
Drugs have side effects. Everything is has a complex cost-benefit relation with some unknown parameters.
Don’t normalize putting random substances in your body for minor reasons.
I’m sorry, random substances? I can agree with you, save the medicine for when you really need it. But ibuprofen isn’t random.
“Don’t normalize taking a minor analgesic for minor pains”
Brother what are you saying
random
Ok.
This wasn’t my intent. I just thought it was funny. Should I delete it?
No lol. I thought it was funny as someone who hates taking even acetaminophen/ibuprofen
Acetaminophen is one that terrifies me. I’m a recovered alcoholic since 2017, but I still think of how much that decade prior must have damaged my liver. My doctor said that basically any NSAID can put stress on the liver, but especially acetaminophen, so I read labels before I buy any meds because it’s in so many things.
Acetaminophen is not an NSAID
But yeah, it can be really rough on the liver
Yeah, sorry. I was walking and distracted when I wrote that. That was my mistake.
Worth noting that acetaminophen/paracetamol is not an NSAID, but you are correct that it’s broken down in the liver. Ibuprofen, however, is broken down in the stomach and absorbed in the stomach lining so it should be easier on the liver. However, best to consult a doctor.
Definitely true but I only take acetaminophen once or twice in a month and I don’t drink at all. So this is going to be up to your individual liver health. Generally it shouldn’t cause a problem, most people just need to look out if they’re combining medications (try not to anyways!) to make sure they’re not double dosing acetaminophen.
Definitely varies individually! Yet, I cringe every time my alcoholic brother catches a cold and starts drinking Nyquil straight from the bottle, on top of the usual brandy and whiskey
My words were harsh, but they are way more intense than deserved.
The net-value of that opinion is negative. But not enough to impose. I’d say a disclaimer is in order, and so I’ve added one.
Thanks, I should’ve put that in the post.
Your headache means you’re overloading yourself, most commonly it’s caused by too little sleep. Your body is telling you to chill for a day and by silencing it and continuing living the way you do, you risk getting something systemic.
When you have an infection, fever boosts your immune system. Block this and risk a complication. Surely, the risk is low while you’re young and healthy, but it’s not zero.
The only legitimate reasons to take NSAIDs are post-surgery treatment and arthritis.
My advice to OP: next time you break a leg, take however much ibuprofen you need not to feel the pain and keep walking.
I’m not young, but I’ve been experiencing migraines since college. I do pretty much follow this advice though. Last time I had an actual fever, it was around 102 - 103F for three days, but I didn’t do anything except fluids and rest, and called into work, of course.
It’s also accurate that I push myself and I force myself to work even when I’ve barely slept, but that’s the nature of my work. Lots of people rely on my assistance, and I don’t mean my boss or co-workers. Still, best job I’ve had in my lifetime, and I’ve been around a while.
It’s been months since I’ve had a migraine, and I’ve noticed it happens less since I learned I have celiac and made the appropriate adjustments to my diet. But when the migraines hit, there’s no ignoring the pain. Incapacitating, excruciating pain. To the point that sticking a knife in my temple seems like it would provide relief.
I’m not even sure the ibuprofen helps under those circumstances, but I get desperate. Sometimes green tea or coffee help if I catch them right at the onset.
I will take your advice to heart though. I’m willing to improve my life in whatever way I can.
You don’t have to justify your struggles to some stranger
This is also true.
i love how you’re just unironically doing exactly what you were just told not to do lol
NSAIDS have recently been proven to be basically useless. Try aspirin.
Aspirin is an NSAID though?
Oh shit, it is??
Really? Aspirin makes my stomache ache, though, and then I vomit even more during the migraine
That sucks. Also I just found out it’s also an NSAID.
I think there are a lot of NSAIDs. Isn’t naproxen sodium (Aleve) one too?
Iunno.
I know that the dollar store version of Excedrin extra strength helped when I had catch tooth pain. Tbh, I think it was the caffeine that helped.
Oh yes, I’ve had a cup of green tea help more than anything. Occasionally that works, if it’s not too severe and I can catch it early enough.
Green tea tastes like it’s trying really hard to not be a liquid.
Holy shit, what is it about this thread bringing out the most outrageously ignorant opinions?

Eat your words bitch.
Look my guy, you linked one single YouTube video as your source, and it’s regarding the wrong medicine. Ibuprofen is a thoroughly researched medicine with clear impact on human physiology. I understand the urge to be skeptical of something that for the most part you just have to accept as true, but I assure you, ibuprofen is very clearly established as a functional analgesic.
Here are three professional medical studies with randomized, double-blind trials, demonstrating clear and unbiased efficacy of ibuprofen. They are very long and technical, but the conclusions/abstracts will give you the TL;DR if you’d prefer.
I don’t think you watched the whole video.
You’re right, I didn’t. I will because I’m curious what the arguments are, but I didn’t need to in order to share clear-cut evidence on the side of the effectiveness of ibuprofen. I’ll leave you a comment once I’ve had a chance to watch.
I don’t know what NSAIDS is but ibuprofen definitely works for me
That’s one of them.
