I don’t know, man. I have a feeling that M’Benga is like a preying mantis. He’ll eat your face after you have sex with him. Then he’ll go back to sickbay with a smile.

I wonder if the actor lists that credit on IMDB. On the one hand, I’d be proud of being in a Trek show. But I certainly wouldn’t relish the follow up question about which episode I was in…

I don’t know, I’d probably be proud of it. Not only would I have been on the TNG pilot, I would have been one of the few characters outside of the main crew anyone ever remembers because of the way I was dressed and the way I was dressed was one of the first, if not the first time Trek was pro-LGBT+ (although it took a long time to move further).

Fair enough; these days it’s certainly more accepted than it would’ve been when it first aired.

They can choose what gets listed?

Is that just for small parts or big parts too?

IMDB actually has a lot of info and procedures regarding credits. Most of it deals with getting your credit.

IMDB basically states: we’re a database, and it’s up to the production company to supply us with proper credits for their movie/show. If you as an actor have a profile on there, it should get added automatically, or you can claim that credit as long as your name matches the one listed in the credits.

Now, if you wanted to ‘delete’ a credit - you can’t. Because IMDB’s position is that as a database, it wants as full and accurate a listing as possible. And deleting people from listed credits would cause gaps in that info.

So in short: no, you actually don’t really have control over it, since it’s not meant to be used as a resume page.

That makes a lot more sense, and is essentially what I assumed (whatever info they have is what they have). I guess I didn’t realize that there were gaps where they wouldn’t be automatically credited, though…

              Thanks!

The Orville ended up somehow being a better Star Trek than any of the Star Trek made since TNG. This looks like the same mistake as them naming that last star trek “STD”.

naming that last star trek “STD”.

      They didn’t.

      TNG

      STD

It’s either TNG and DSC or STT and STD. You can’t have it both ways.

I prefer DISCO. Like on the exercise shirts.

Also, Saru would totally smoke everyone else on the Star Trek dance-off.

DISCO gets used for a lot of the PT gear and stuff but DSC is used on the shuttles, cargo crates and other labels. Which makes sense. Keep with the 3-letter acronym.

Agreed on the danceoff though. He can sing, surely he can dance.

I’m just going by common nomenclature. You absolutely can have it both ways, because I didn’t name shit. I’m just going by the abbreviations they commonly hold.

Not a single Star Trek series is officially abbreviated with “ST” for “Star Trek” in the title. “They” never named it that.

But they aren’t common nomenclature (as they’re only used by people who are being disingenuous), they don’t commonly hold (as they are not used by the studio, memory alpha, or really anyone in general other than trolls) and it doesn’t fit with the naming scheme of the series. So, like I said, you can’t have it both ways.

Yeah, I agree with you that anyone abbreviating Discovery as “STD” is doing it just to be obtuse. That said, the abbreviation rules aren’t quite as consistent as I’d like.

            1. If it’s the original Star Trek series, it’s abbreviated TOS (The Original Series).
            2. If it’s a spin off with a multi-word subtitle (Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds), it’s abbreviated as an initialism of the subtitle (TNG, DS9, SNW).
            3. If it’s a spin off with a single-word subtitle (Star Trek: Voyager, Star Trek: Enterprise, Star Trek: Prodigy), it’s abbreviated with the first three letters of the subtitle (VOY, ENT, PRO).

There are two series which violate these rules.

            1. Discovery violates rule 3 by being abbreviated as DSC, instead of DIS.
            2. Lower Decks violates rule 2 by being abbreviated LOW, instead of LD.

To be fair, I never mentioned the abbreviation rules themselves, just the naming scheme of Star Trek shows. The addition of ST to any acronym does line up with that. However, I agree on the Discovery front I disagree on the Lower Decks one. I’ve never seen anyone call it LOW, it’s always been referred to as LD.

Yeah, according to this, there is some inconsistency in how the abbreviations are done across various sites. Some use LOW, some use LD or LDS.

But, as you said, “ST” is never used as part of the abbreviation for a show, only movies.

Perhaps rule 2 is “If it’s a spinoff whose subtitle contains at least 3 words”. That would be consistent with the evidence.
