The worst part is that he was saying this to a bunch of women who just graduated with degrees. He’s basically telling them all to give up after putting in 4+ years of work. This guy is a total shit bag.

Blaming journalism for reporting what this guy said at a graduation ceremony is fucking hilarious and tone deaf.

“If people wanted you to write warmly about them , they should’ve behaved better”

Being a meathead isn’t an excuse; behave better. That includes people who make excuses for people who behave poorly.

I’m so confused by the super fundie catholics. I grew up in New England and was raised Catholic, even went to Catholic school for a bit, and never got any of that “barefoot and pregnant” in teachings or sermons. The church always had awful stances on abortion, birth control, divorce and homosexuality but pretty much everyone just glossed over or ignored it. And there really wasn’t anyone pushing that shit. Like you never heard anti gay or any abortion stuff in church or in school. I wonder if the church adapts to the local region? Like how McDonalds sells wine in France? Or maybe the American dioceses all got infiltrated by super right wing priests?

The Catholic bishops in the Northeast have all been cowed by bullying liberals into downplaying and ignoring Church teachings in order to be more appealing. This is why it’s lost so many Catholics, such as yourself, to the world. You have no understanding of actual Catholic teaching, and have embraced the godless degeneracy of the modern world. This is not your fault, it’s the Church’s fault.

You progressives are forcing an ideology onto children that was literally developed by a pedophile to justify pedophilia. Queer theory, which underlies the entire gender ideology that you have confused with “morality,” was developed by Michel Foucault as a means of challenging the norms around pederasty, because he wanted to have sex with young boys.

How do you think you have a moral leg to stand on? You people don’t even believe in morality! You literally think morality is just a subjective social construction that has no objective basis.

We live in a World were, still (one would expect they should have learned by now) many if not most people listen to the opinions of people about things they’re not at all experts in (such as sports-people, actors and so on) because they’re “celebrities”.

Working in a profession which just so happens to be done publicly for an audience does not make one’s take on things outside that profession be any higher quality that those of any other random person.

By the way, it’s quite irrelevant if their opinion aligns or not with one’s own: the informational value of what they think is still zero.

NFL kicker has to be a really weirdly rough job. You don’t really do much work during the game and have far less risk of violent physical contact, but you have to practice your ass off outside the game because the kicking game has little margin for error. Your role is absolutely critical and can easily decide the outcome of almost every game, but nobody respects you and almost nobody knows your name unless you fuck up real bad. I used to be a huge NFL nerd but can only name three kickers: Pat McAfee because he’s a TV personality now, Sebastion Janikowski because of his name and how rotund he was, and Ray Finkle who isn’t even a real person just a movie kicker. I can’t even remember the name of the Hall of Fame kicker for the Pats and Colts who won many Super Bowls.

And yeah, nobody will give a shit if this shitstain goes away. Will the NFL, well-known for their respect for human rights and progressive views, actually do anything about it, though?

Eddie Murray was the top point scorer for the Lions for the entirety of the 80’s. Growing up in Michigan during that decade, he and Barry Sanders (90’s) are the only Lions I can remember.

Millionaires and billionaires … our modern day logic is to think and believe that someone who owns or has access to enormous sums of money automatically gives them the title of “genius”.

I suppose humanity has always been like that.

We called them Kings, Queens, Lords, Emperors in the past … we changed the titles but the blind praise is still the same.

While I agree with your sentiment… millionaires and billionaires should not be lumped together. This conflation is actually a super useful tool for the billionaires (and mega millionaires) to use when convincing the middle and lower economic classes to vote in their favor.

Realistically, millionaire today basically just means homeowner. As ridiculous as it sounds, a million dollars is not an “enormous” sum of money in today’s world.

        Billionaire is something different entirely.

Better to say “super wealthy” or something like that.

You are taking his praise of his wife, which was meant to communicate to the audience that if you abandon your career for a family as his wife did, then you will probably be happy like his wife was. You people are so rabidly misogynistic and anti-family that you can’t even comprehend what he said when you have the speech laid out in front of you. Butker, a conservative Catholic himself, dismissed Pride month as consisting of the “deadly sin sort of pride” while denouncing abortion and President Joe Biden’s handling of the pandemic. He said women are told “diabolical lies” about career ambition when “one of the most important titles of all” is that of homemaker. He said this is not time for “the church of nice” and in particular blasted Catholics who support abortion rights and “dangerous gender ideologies.”

What a tool. But the school says:

The society seeks to differentiate schools that “refuse to compromise their Catholic mission” from those that have become “battlegrounds for today’s culture wars.”

Yet they invite this tool to speak and be part of those same culture wars.

    https://apnews.com/article/catholic-college-conservative-commencement-harrison-butker-a40b881fe41ac489853fb67e58ed20d1

Just in case you think it’s one right-wingnut school turning out students who attend because it suits their narrative:

Benedictine College’s Transforming Culture in America plan makes professional advancement for students a high priority, saying “Transforming Culture in America will require leaders in the workplace and public life who inspire others to be committed to living the Gospel.”

The “BC in D.C.” program was started specifically to help Benedictine College students gain experience in positions of power in our nation’s capital in order to further the Center for Constitutional Liberty’s mission to inspire, inform, and direct the next generation of America’s leaders.

    https://media.benedictine.edu/bc-in-d-c-is-bringing-benedictine-values-to-capitol-hill

So there you have it, a religious school intent on inserting religious like-minded individuals into politics and influencing politics in the direction of individuals like Butker.
