    Here’s another.

GOP in 2016 = We need Trump because the rest of the world is laughing at America.

GOP today = Who cares what the rest of the world thinks?

My favorite all time GW moments, “It looks like a hurricane came through there”, and when he pulls on the door you need to push, the dumbfounded look on his face.

It’s crazy to think how bad he was and he was great compared to tRump.

I mean McCain and Romney both did fairly well with their base. What the Rs realized and Ds have yet to realize is that pandering to the center doesn’t help. You have to go farther right(R-facisn) or left(D-socialism) to get people actually wanting to vote for you.

I think they did realize it. They also realized they’re getting old and the younger generations aren’t buying into the “trickle down” bullshit because they can’t buy a house if they wanted to. Gone are the days of the man working at a factory and supporting a family with a house and two new cars. I think the current GOP is going for broke, they know if they don’t win now, they are absolutely fucked. The more boomers die off, the more boomers go into nursing homes, the more fucked it all gets. The planet is in deep shit, they know it, they don’t care because they’ll be long gone before it effects them. Younger people and even older are beginning to realize that religion is a sham, and that too hurts the GOP. This is pretty much it for them with what they’ve been working on since Reagan. My hope is the brainwashed suckers snap out of it and we can actually get some republicans in office that will work with the democrats and start working on making lives better for everyone, not just the rich as fuck.

Fascism’s major hallmark is fervent hypocrisy. That’s how people could live within half a mile of death camps and just casually brush the ash of burnt people from their hair, then smile like they’re going on a picnic as they’re led into the death camps at the end of their street, then ten minutes later, after seeing actual corpses stacked like cordwood, they’re vomiting and swearing they had no idea.

We can’t let the uneducated masses lead us into that kind of horror again, We need to educate them of what they’re advocating for and why that’s so horrifically dangerous. We need to stop hedging and beating round the bush, and lay out in detail what they’re actually enabling. People die when this kind of nationalistic ignorance is allowed to proliferate. We need to stop this ignorance before it kills people.

Unfortunately that’s not the correct solution. When we start taking away citizens’ rights to participate in their public democratic government, we no longer have a public democratic government. Down the line, you would lose your right to vote as well, for a reason that you think is bullshit. And it would be bullshit, just like it’s bullshit to suggest removing voting rights from Trump supporters.

        • @ThatWeirdGuy1001

By increasing funding to public education systems, debunking any misinformation that’s put out, holding news sources like fox accountable for lying to millions of people on a daily basis, stop using kid gloves whenever republican congressmen break the law, follow the money trail and expose the oligarchs running our country from the shadows through bribes and lobbying, never be a single issue voter, and always participate in local elections.

The sad reality of our world is stupid, greedy, evil pieces of shit will put in all the effort they can to get what they want. Good people tend to be apathetic and then get fucked hard when the bad people get their way. Good people need to pull the rocks out of their asses and get a fuckin move on.

That’s the trillion dollar question man, and I honestly don’t know the answer.

My approach is to try be a rational voice that people in my circle feel comfortable talking to about anything, and telling them honestly and assertively when they’re not making sense or when they’re spouting harmful rhetoric (sort of what I did in my first reply to you here). It is exhausting and demoralizing, but I have found that when given the opportunity, people do trust their friends and family more than the random angry Russian people in their phone.

We have to engage with these people and try to help them, because they are going to vote and raise children in our country either way.

But removing voting rights and ending democracy is exactly what the right wants to do.

This is almost like a version of tolerance of intolerance that we see on the left sometimes.

        • @FrostyTheDoo

I’m not tolerating intolerance. I’m saying stripping voting rights from people is not the right answer. I’m really not sure how you got that twisted…it seems that you agree that removing voting rights and ending democracy would be a bad thing. Yet you’re advocating for it anyway? Can you explain that position a bit more clearly?

In my opinion you should spend your political capital and energy on influencing others to vote for candidates you support, rather than spending it advocating for the end of democratic voting in America.

          • @jaybone
            link

I’m not agreeing or disagreeing. I’m making an observation.

The right has the right to vote. They want to vote to elect Trump. Trump wants to be a dictator and end democratic elections, removing everyone’s right to vote.

I will agree that education is key. Having an informed and educated society is the only way to have a working democracy. But the right also wants to eliminate education, so that’s a problem.

          Yes. we. should.

The only reason to restrict voting is to keep “undesirables” from having a say in government.

In a fair government everyone should be represented. The only way to even approach that is to make it a requirement that everyone votes.
