I never liked the idea of a Borg queen. It feels too foolish to have a single point of failure like that.

The whole point of the Borg was they strip you of individuality, but the existence of a queen puts the individual above the collective. There are many protocols the Borg could use to resolve conflicts at very fast speeds, deferring to the queen who made a ton of bad choices was not a good idea.

Yeah, that was an unfortunate retcon. Makes Q’s “they are neither male, nor female” nonsensical, too, given how she acted toward Data.

I always figured the queen was the first one to assimilate herself so she’s the only one of her kind and all the Borg are her but she’s herself in physical presence

I totally agree, they’re terrifying in TNG and not so much in Voyager. But I think they needed an excuse to create drama between 7 and the Borg and it doesn’t make sense for the entire collective to be obsessed with her.

Sarcasm is going to be the hardest thing for AI to understand, especially if people stop using /s

That’s why it was legit suggesting people add glue to cheese on pizza to make it gooey.

Someone made a joke a decade ago on Reddit, and it was up voted because humans knew it was a joke.

AI saw that. Saw the up votes and engagement, and assumed it was a good idea people liked.

      For AI?

There are (normal, smart) people that are incapable of understanding it.

And I don’t mean not having enough context to understand it, I mean the simplest things.

I have a college like that. She learned to recognise the blank expression on my face when she immediately starts explaining to me how it was physically impossible for me to do what I just said & just goes “ohh, that was sarcasm probably, right?” … I however still get surprised by her (eg her questioning my morning city commuting abilities of arriving at the office 5 minutes before I left home if I drive fast enough through the traffic … ok, not the best example, but the fucking normal/everyday/intuitive physics of it, how could you even start questioning that?).

On the other hand, I find witty fast sarcasm kinda hot.

I’ve long wondered if a species with a high reproduction rate (or maybe artificial womb tech) and little regard for losses could do some kind of cyberattack against the borg by either making them assimilate a lot of junk data, harmfully incorrect information, or an overwhelmingly large number of members of some desired ideology so as to shift the entire collective towards that way of thinking

Amish biological DDOS. Suddenly the Borg become obsessed with perfecting butter churns + arts and crafts.

(Not suggesting Amish don’t care about their kids. In fact, from an outsider’s perspective they appear to care a LOT about having kids.)

I wonder about the binars. If they could do something unique to mess with the borg…

They would probably be easier than usual for the Borg to assimilate, given how similar their method of communication is.

Drones and even entire cubes can be cut off from the collective. Doubt it’d reach that far. There were the “concious when sleeping” borg that were kind of a virus / resistance, so probably that’d happen

If a goofy 3d object can mess up the borg. I wonder what the internet would do to them.

That actually was in my opinion realistic

I’ve always assumed the Borg Queen is a representation of the Borg’s collective will, not the de facto leader. She does the things she does because the whole collective is agreeing to do what she does. She’s just the tangible point the audience can focus on.

That’s my headcanon as well, even if it doesn’t/might not quite fit the lore exactly 100%.

Like, the queen can instantly inhabit any (or all?) advance drone and at the same time a queen can restore the collective if something were to happen to it.

However Im super happy how the Borg queen arc in Picard ended (RIP actress :|), so for that alone I’m ok with a queen.

It would be amazing if there was an alternate universe where the borg evolved from chatgpt. Like, it’s constantly wrong and broken but all the races are driving the assimilation out of the belief that one day the borg collective start solving problems.

It always caused me some pause when thinking how Borg are selective in assimilation and how they even actively discard irrelevant (but already assimilated) data.

But then I remember humans and our “works” … so yes, Borg are smart.
I wish to be assimilated. I’ll complete their meme database in exchange for deleting everything else I can’t delete myself.

Is the phalanx from marvel comics the same as the Borg but yellow and black instead of green and black?

As far as the basic concept goes, they are very similar though there are significant differences in the details that are mostly a blur in my memories except that the actress for Seven of Nine is significantly more attractive than Douglock.
