I’d recognize the drab bomb shelter lighting temperature of an In-N-out any day, with or without the food.

They do that to keep people awake. Customers and workers alike. That’s just what I’ve heard from the workers, though.

It’s also a pretty common lighting choice in just about any office building or commercial entity. When you’re as big as a giant fast food franchise, I can see the likelihood someone might have done the research necessary to conclude it was worth getting this lighting specifically to avoid sleeping customers and staff but I think it’s also quite likely they’re just cheap.

It’s a quarter cup of cat barf. It’s difficult at first to get your pets to barf into measuring cups, but it absolutely can be done. Carrot, not the stick. Positive reinforcement.

Thousand Island dressing + nacho saucethermoplastic sealant.

remember. Thousand Island is McDonald’s “secret sauce”. (though there’s some distinctions in their particular thousand island.)

I don’t like their fries all that much either, but on the off chance that you’ve been eating them unsalted, they don’t salt them, just give you the salt on the side.

I’ll take a Double Triple Bossy Deluxe, on a raft, four-by-four animal-style, extra shingles with a shimmy and a squeeze, light axle grease, make it cry, burn it, and let it swim.

I get them in the burger. Double-double with a whole grilled onion and chopped chilies, animal style fries. It’s what makes the world go round. Almost forgot to mention, toasted bun to help keep it from falling apart.

Thank god I’m not the only one. I didn’t grow up on them, being from the east coast, and I think it tastes like a dressed up McDonald’s burger (animal style included). It’s just not great. Hell, Freddy’s and Culvers is better.

Oh their fries are absolute trash, that I agree on.

For me, it’s the Flying Dutchman Animal Style. The best fast food sandwich. I even ask for extra chopped chilis and the staff is so friendly and more than willing to oblige.

One time I asked for an extra slice of cheese and they gave me three. I said, “Wow, three for free!” and the nice friendly In-N-Out worker laughed and said, “I’m going to call you 3-for-free!”.

Now the staff greets me with “hey it’s 3-for-free!” and ALWAYS give me three slices. It’s such a fun and cool atmosphere at my local In-N-Out restaurant, I go there at least 3 times a week for lunch and a large milkshake, 1-2 times for breakfast on the weekend, and maybe once for dinner when I’m in a rush but want a great meal that is affordable, fast, and can match my daily nutritional needs.

I even dip my fries in milkshake, it’s delicious! What a great restaurant.

Agreed! The fries are so bad! Absolutely disgusting no flavor and limp and soggy every time. They just slice them and toss them in the frier. Good fires are pre-boiled with a little bit of vinegar and then flash fried, frozen, then fried again. That’s how you get the soft core but nice bubbly crispy skin.

I’m not a fan of animal style fries, but I do like their fries. I get a laugh at how everyone hates on them for having the least processed fries in the business. Long before in n out was in my area, every now and then my dad would make fries out of fresh potatoes. He would do it just like in n out. Cut up the potato, fry it up and add salt. I get that nostalgia plays a part, but those were the best damn fries I ever ate as a child. In n out’s taste very similar especially if you get them fresh. (Still not the same, but it’s very good) People always complain that they aren’t as crisp, but honestly, just appreciate that they are made differently, and expect something different. There are literally 3 ingredients. Potato, oil, and salt, and you can watch them manually cutting potatoes from the drive thru or lobby. Imo that’s a sign of quality, and I would be mad as hell if they switched to generic par fried frozen shit that you can get literally anywhere else.

All the comments about the burger sauce on the fries acting like they’ve never heard of using thousand island dressing as fry sauce. Mayo, ketchup, relish (preferably dill). I don’t know why In-n-Out calls that animal style though… I’ve only ever known animal style to mean dipped in mustard and fried so it gets a crunchy shell. Not “absolutely drenched in sauce.”

And speaking as moderator: I’m not sure I want to keep fast food posts up here, but I also like being fair to the fact Lemmy is small and we don’t want to get all up our own butts like the Reddit sub. What does the community itself think?

The fries are the worst. They put no seasoning on them and they are never crispy. I don’t get how the place is so popular. I want to like them, because they have great prices, and give fairer wages to employees than almost all other fast food places, but it’s just not very good.

They seem to be doing fine without me, though. I work across the parking lot from one, and it is packed for every single hour they are open.
