I think people should make a distinction between “Christmas movie,” and “movie that takes place on or around Christmas.”
How bout nooo scott
Who’s got that meme with bugs bunny saying ‘No’?
Thank you for your service
i think you better choose your next words carefully lest you find yourself on the wrong side of the war on christmas
I’ll take the side with Sylvester and Bruce on it in any war.
I’m pretty sure the “there’s snow, there’s a Christmas tree, this is a Christmas movie!” is a joke though. I haven’t ever done this joke myself. I guess still need to find what in Die Hard makes it a Christmas movie :) .
it’s Christmas eve, part of the premise is a dude returning home t family for Christmas, there’s a Christmas miracle (that he survives at all), the villain is after material gain and is about to ruin Christmas, and John’s wife’s name is fucking Holly! What more do you want‽
Amd the party he attends for Holly’s work is a Christmas party. And his limo driver is very festive.
I think there are people who take it surprisingly seriously lol
I feel like that’s a very gradual gradient. Is it only when Christmas is a fundamental part of the story?
For example your comment makes me think of the “Die Hard isn’t a Christmas movie” people, but it would have been a completely different movie if not for the office Christmas party.
It’s integral to the plot of Die Hard.
The movie is First Blood, not Rambo. Rambo wasn’t in the title until the second movie.
Still Rambo. Same as Raiders of the Lost Ark being Indiana Jones 1. Or Batman Begins being part of the Dark Knight trilogy.
no but actually tho. the first one is about a veteran having an emotional breakdown when veterans frequently do: the winter holiday season
Yeah First Blood actually had a little bit to say, it wasn’t just an action movie
Are you kidding? It’s a great story about PTSD, prejudice, and how vets are treated after Vietnam.
I was so shocked when I watched it because it’s actually good.
i think there’s a universe out there where Rocky and First Blood establish Stalone as being the contemplative action movie guy. both those movies had interesting things to say about grief, loss, disappointment, and carrying on with the traumas of what pursuit of the american dream actually mean
I took First Blood as commentary on the poor treatment and mental health services provided to Viet Nam veterans. First Blood is an excellent film IMO.
It’s also about the social conflict between Vietnam and Korea veterans. Something largely forgotten today.
and you’d be right! it’s honestly very thoughtful and contemplative
There’s a strong argument that he’s American film’s Norman Rockwell. Not perfect, but he helped shape the identity of a culture in a way that resonated.
Rocky stayed pretty true to that throughout the sequels. The speech he gives his son in Rocky V is outstanding.
They drew first blood, not him! He didn’t have a breakdown until after he was repeatedly harassed.
I recall he was looking for an army buddy that had died. From hopes of the holidays with a friend, so harassment from police.
Rambo first Christmas
Rambo first Christmas part II
Rambo Christmas III
Rambo Christmas
Rambo last ChristmasRambo gave you my heart
Rambo gave it away
So is The Road because there’s snow around the twenty minute mark
So Stallone made two Christmas movies. This one and Cobra.
wasn’t there snow in Demolition Man? or does ice not count?
OH! Cliffhanger!
