There’s also Mini Motorways. Same concept, different pieces. Heavily recommend both, both can scratch those “I just want to have a chill time” and “I wanna optimize and challenge myself” itches.

Super easy to pick up, spend your lunch break placing lines, and go back to whatever you were doing.

Still waiting for Mini Motorways to not be gatekept by Apple Arcade on iOS.

I’ve been playing Mini Metro for almost ten years now.

That’s a great description of both games. I jump back and forth depending on how I feel.

My friend, you are about to see Mini Metro in every metropolitan subway system map from now until eternity. Godspeed.

Mini Metro is fantastic! Mini Motorways is somehow even better, although it is only available for the PC.

I cannot for the life of me figure out the overpasses in this game. I’ve done the tutorials tons of times and when I go to place one in the game, I’m obviously doing something wrong because it won’t let me place it or it places it in some convoluted way that I didn’t want.

I cannot find an explanation. I love the game but ultimately quit playing because of this.

Are you talking about the highways? If so, those gave me trouble at first too, but I figured it out. Once you select one from the toolbar, tap a point on the map. That’ll be where it starts. Then, tap the location of the destination, and the highway will form itself automatically connecting those two points.

It’s a great game for starting and stopping while your partner pauses a movie to get a snack. Available on iOS too.

Doesn’t look like it’s on sale, at least in the US

Great game for mobile, too. My partner was hooked for months straight, got into some of the daily top ten leaderboards.

Am I the only one here to remember it being a game that you played on a website for free?

I lost many hours like 10 years ago on this game.

Oh, a lovely game and so is it’s sequel. I recently gave a spare copy to a student of mine, too, so it was on my mind when I read this post. Enjoy!

I like this game (and mini motorways) but it sort of requires you to pause a lot. It doesn’t significantly take away from the experience (and a lot of games I really enjoy are like this, FTL is a big example) but it still bothers me

Love Mini Metro, it’s great for when I’m in a “don’t feel like anything” mood

Brilliant game, and remember: the only reason to play normal mode is to unlock extreme mode!

I played that game couple months ago, loved it but I got bored after some time. It’s a slow game, let’s you rearrange all the lines, but after some point it gets difficult. Long lines are slow for the subway and too much people.

yeah why do people use this as a positive? it’s literally a way for lots of AAA titles to manipulate their audience.

that being said mini metro isn’t addictive. it’s fun and chill and it can get hectic; depending on the mode you’re playing.

being good enough that you want to play more isn’t addictive.

I think in most cases it could easily be replaced with fun, enjoyable or great. if you’d like something more about how you interact with it: engaging, compelling, maybe even captivating depending on the context.

you might think it doesn’t make a difference but addicting is something that a lot of big publishers deliberately aim for, and unfortunately knock it out of the park. it’s best not to relate that to small developers without that sinister goal.
