Summary

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy offered to send 150 firefighters to help combat California’s devastating wildfires, which have killed 16 people and displaced 150,000.

His announcement followed a controversial social media post by Donald Trump Jr., blaming donations to Ukraine for LA’s fire challenges.

Zelenskyy emphasized solidarity, while California Governor Gavin Newsom welcomed international support, including crews from Mexico and Canada.

Over 14,000 personnel, including prison inmates, are battling the fires, with two major blazes still uncontained after six days. Winds threaten to worsen the crisis.

I can’t stand that family. I really am at the end… I just can’t stand them and the awful shit they spew. They should never be listened to, and it’s sickening anyone thinks they deserve to be heard. Constant sow of hate is all I ever see and hear.

I know I might be foolishly optimistic but it will be better in 4 years. He can’t run again without a constitutional amendment.

They volunteer. Shit pay (extremely below min wage) but technically paid. Also get possible record expunging, reduced sentence, and hiring as a “normal” firefighter after.

A lot better than the involuntary less paid crap in some other states. A far sight from civilized rehabilitation though.

Exactly the same thing in the U.S. as per our constitution.

      The 13th Amendment:

Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

This almost makes me want to do Riker again, but I’m not ready because they aren’t losing enough. This deserves it though.

Ehhh. If I were Zelenskyy, I’d probably stay out of US domestic politics as far as I’m able. Potential downside, little potential upside.

I mean, yes, it’s a nice offer, but Ukraine doesn’t want to get in the middle of US political spatting.

Plus, Ukraine really needs their own firefighting capacity due to the fact that they’re getting sporadically attacked by weapons that cause fires.

Ukraine was literally being blamed for exacerbating the LA fire damage.

They were in the middle of our politics whether they liked it or not.

Ooof, I think they might need to put fires out where they are more than in CA. Hell, can we in CO send another 50 and get two other states to pledge the same?

Of course, they can get back and forth in 24h so I guess the expertise can be utilized.
