Summary

Sen. Lindsey Graham warned that halting U.S. military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine could be “worse than Afghanistan.”

He urged continued support until a ceasefire is reached and announced plans for sanctions on Russia’s banking and energy sectors.

The Trump administration paused aid after a heated Oval Office meeting where Trump and JD Vance clashed with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy. Russia escalated attacks following the fallout.

U.S. and Ukrainian officials will meet in Saudi Arabia to discuss a minerals deal and ceasefire, while Trump seeks further concessions from Ukraine.

I hate Lindsey Graham. I hate him more than the idiots who just blatantly go along with anything Trump says.

He’ll push back just so and contradict Trump a little bit, just enough to make it clear that he is not completely devoid of sense or sanity, but when push comes to shove he’ll fall in line. It’s like he’s trying to make sure history books don’t lump him in with the full blown fascists. The fact that he does seem to comprehend how disastrous everything Trump does is makes the fact he eventually goes along with it more egregious than if he were just another empty suit going along with the cult.

Wasn’t he praising little d just last week on this very thing?

Speaking to reporters in the White House driveway right afterward, South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham predicted that the shouting match could end U.S. support for Zelenskyy, calling the meeting a “complete, utter disaster.”

“Somebody asked me, am I embarrassed about Trump. I have never been more proud of the president. I was very proud of JD Vance standing up for our country. We want to be helpful. What I saw in the Oval Office was disrespectful, and I don’t know if we can ever do business with Zelenskyy again," Graham, the Senate Budget Committee Chairman, said. “The way he handled the meeting, the way he confronted the president, was just over the top.”

Yeah, it wasn’t a disaster or over the top because of anything little d or “JD” “Vance” did during their planned ambush of a guy trying to fight off a dictator invading his country. Not according to Lindsey. Last week, anyway.

Lindsey, just a few days ago:

“He either needs to resign and send somebody over that we can do business with, or he needs to change,” Graham said.

Hey buddy, wanna find that fucking backbone during confirmation hearings?

Lindsey Graham has always and will always stand for the military industrial complex and is consistently hawkish. He’s shaking in his little meemaw’s booties because a cessation of aid means a drop in contractor spending.

“I can’t believe most Americans after what they saw today would want to be partners with Zelensky,” Graham said. “Ukraine is an important ally.”

-Lindsey Graham the day of Trump/Zelensky meeting where Trump threw a bitch fit.

He’s a flip flopping piece of shit. He supports Ukraine but wants the man fighting for them to step down. Zelensky stepping down is basically throwing in the towel. They just want a fucking compliant leader who will do what they say.

but wants the man fighting for them to step down

Leader worship is not wise. Also Zelensky pressed out Zaluzhny.

And no, I think they really want a ceasefire, not a surrender. On terms good enough for the US, but maybe Ukraine would hope for better terms. Ukraine right now appears less dependent on foreign military assistance than in 2022, so it can “negotiate” this way a bit.

Of course they want a compliant puppet, that’s not in question. Just - the Ukrainian war seems stabilized. Russia has seen the limits of its abilities, and there seems to be an opportunity for ceasefire and negotiations. Trying to return all the occupied territory for Ukraine is the perfect which is the enemy of the good.

Why? I think an Ukrainian would be even more keen on that. Ukrainians bear the main cost of war. It would make sense for the majority of them to wish for a ceasefire even more than for Trump. Bear in mind that many Ukrainians in the Web are refugees elsewhere, so they might seem very emotional and aggressive and irresponsible, it’s very easy to call for total war over the Web from another country.

Why go so far? Ukraine had a ceasefire with Russia between 2019 and 2022. There were even working mechanisms to deal with conflicts. Russia showed it can’t be trusted.

The Ukrainian government made no effort to implement Minsk II, had it been implemented then this war would likely not have happened.

Minsk explicity stated that elections come first and then withdrawal. Ukraine wanted Russia to withdraw first before allowing elections in the DPR and LPR which was against the agreement.

Ukraine also had the obligation to uphold linguistic rights to ethnic minorities but violated the Minsk Agreements with the 2019 language law which didn’t outright ban the Russian language but did discriminate against those who did not speak Ukrainian or an EU language.

Zelenskyy initially did campaign on a pro-peace platform but he was quickly pressured by far right militias to do otherwise.

You mean the law regarding Crimea and Donbas that Europe persuaded Ukraine to withdraw a month before Nazi Russia decided to violate the ceasefire? That’s a great example of the ceasefire mechanisms working.

The language law was only approved after the invasion, and given the Ruskyy Mir speech, it’s not surprising Ukraine is not comfortable with promoting Russian inside their borders.
