Those “keep politics out of x” is so ridiculously ignorant. As if self-censorship is politically neutral 🤦‍♂️ As if avoiding LGBT representation is neutral. Just wait until they discover that Star Wars is political and has always been 😂

My dad loves to say “I hate how political movies are now”, and I’m just like “How many movies have you made me sit through over the years where the main takeaway is ‘The US military and government and all of their policies are awesome and correct.’”

I mean… it’s actually kind of disturbing how many there are, The green Berets, Top Gun, Transformers, Black hawk down, some grey area ones like saving private ryan and similar.

Of course, you’d get the other side of the coin with say movies like rambo, apacalypse now Born on the fourth of july etc…

Oh, you mean things that are unironically used as pro-America media by people that have 0 ability to see a political message? The same people that told RATM that they were good before they became political in 2016 (lmao)

I actually liked when Stabler was on SVU way back when - the name being at complete odds with the character’s personality alone was pure genius.

For how much conservatives hate anything LGBTQ showing up in movies, it’s weird that they love Top Gun so much. That movie is probably the most homosexual piece of media I’ve ever had to witness, and I’ve enjoyed quite a bit of gay porn in my days.

Some has some pretty bad ironic concepts though. Like the expanse in my opinion was a strong version of that. In watching it it really showed the capitalism hell, with the belt clearly representing some level of the working class/the global south.

To me the great irony of it though was after it got canceled, Jeff Bezos personally took towards buying the show and using amazon prime to keep it going.

That’s how /pol/ (and by extension, Bannon/Epstein/some stormfront users) were able to convince a generation of men to police the internet on their behalf. Sounds very convincing to centrists and previously apolitical people, had some success already in Hungary by the 2010s (which ended with Fidesz calling the resulting as apolitical art as humanly possible as “valueless, without any meaning”), and was the thing that ultimately convinced a generation of gamers to start a “consumer revolt” that was actually a right wing astroturf campaign.

I suppose it depends on the platform. If you are on Discord e.g. and only are on servers where you trust most of the userbase to be solid people, I can imagine it’s fine. But like, X? Facebook, Instagram? Fugedaboutit.

I’m not tryna find out, I disable public DMs on all platforms where I don’t expect people to know me unless I add them (back). Strict policy. We either tight like that or we’re not talking.

Unless it’s Facebook Marketplace in which case yes ma’am how are you today, yes this item is still available, what nice weather we’re having, what time can you pick up, and is that your sister, oh it’s your DAUGHTER, how lovely!
