This seems to be a common occurrence in their home American market, if what you read online is true. There’s people constantly complaining about diarrhea after Taco Bell. All Americans. I guess their international franchise rules are different and better controlled.

It doesn’t have to actually do with Taco Bell directly. The root cause is that most American’s diets have very little fiber, but most items at Taco Bell have a good amount of fiber, unlike most other fast food places.

Sudden large shifts in fiber intake cause gastrointestinal issues.

IMO it’s just a meme that got overblown. Obviously there are people who get the shits from eating there, but I don’t think it’s any more significant than other fastfood.

Also, the current news of this explosive diarrhea outbreak seems to hyperfocus on Taco Bell when the true source is the supplier that also supplies lettuce to a lot of other restaurants.

Taco Bell blew the whistle on their own supplier (who supplies produce to many other restaurants) and pulled the suspected products from their stores immediately, before the government did anything.

Good guy Taco Bell, you have never given me diarrhea and they will never make me hate you.

I still miss double decker tacos (with the beans, not cheese) and Chilitos (later called chili cheese burritos).

Yep … even before they identified it they banned a bunch of ingredients on many states stores proactively. Not casting any shade on TB

Look - I’m an American that eats Taco Bell… I was there for the Mexi Melt all the way to the Doritos Locos taco. Never had an issue. It’s produce delivery and not all the time crappy restaurants. There are a good deal of fast food places I won’t eat at locally after seeing cooking practices though. I saw soda lines running through grease water at one place and unbelievably bad cleaning at another. I don’t blame Taco Bell but if you look at Taylor Farms there’s a history of violations.

In America it’s considered rude not to have diarrhea after Taco Bell.

I’ve always been a little confused by that meme since it’s never been an issue at Canadian Taco Bells

It’s always been a joke here in the U.S. Mostly held up by the fact that they stick with using grade d beef or what not. In truth most everyone I know who has joked about it don’t really get sick off it or they wouldn’t eat it. (Also most sickness like this comes from lettuce so the grade d meat really has no impact)

But everyones mileage varies, I’ve never had a problem with my asshole stinging after eating spicy food, but many people swear it’s going to happen when they are eating something spicy. I figure most said that as a joke as well… but maybe these people all have really weak stomachs and should be watching what they eat if spice bothers them.

Okay hear me out. I love spicy food. I love hot sauces. My mouth has a quite high tolerance for capsaicin. I would consider anything below 100K Scoville mild at best and every single standard commercial sauce (Tabasco, Cholula, Huy Fong Sriracha, Frank’s etc.) no more spicier than ketchup. When it’s taco night at home I drench mine in hot sauces. My asshole does absolutely not have the same tolerance.

Its less about a food safety problem at taco bell and more of an extremely low quality food problem. Their meat is about 88% beef, binders and fillers and some seasonings.
