US president’s statement is latest sign that negotations to end war and reopen strait of Hormuz have stalled

Donald Trump has said he will demand that Iran pay compensation for the deaths of thousands of US soldiers and Iran’s own civilians killed in recent decades in the latest sign his negotiations to end the war and reopen the strait of Hormuz have reached an impasse.

The US president is trying to end conflicts in Iran, Gaza and Lebanon, and his additional demands of Iran are likely to provoke anger in Tehran at the same time as Israel has rejected Trump’s terms for a 15-point roadmap to end the war in Gaza.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he was issuing the demand for war reparations in response to Iranian negotiators making similar claims for damages for the five-month war that has killed thousands and devastated Iran’s military and economy.

The only thing Trump believes in is that everything has a dollar value, and that he wants all of it.

As we all know, when negotiations are stalled you just need to demand more from the other guy until they give in and give you everything you want. Obviously, why peace talks have failed so far is Trump simply didn’t demand enough from Iran. Art of the Deal!

I thought that the “Art of the Deal” at the end was enough to make it obvious I was aiming towards sarcasm.

I guessed it was, but there are a lot of crazy people. Just consider half the voters voting for Trump in the US presidential election voted for Trump.
Any one of them could in theory have written something pretty close to your post.

    What a petulant fucking tantrum-throwing, diaper-shitting, spoiled gods-damned toddler.

“Trying to end the conflict” and “demanding reparations from the nation who got attacked” do not equate.

It’s like dealing with the playground bully. Always a new demand.

      Was coming to say similar.

Scumbag reducing all of those deaths on both sides to some sort of game he thinks he is playing. It really and truly shows that he has neither the ability to comprehend what the fuck he is actually doing in the world, nor fit to be an elected official anywhere in the world, let alone president of the United States.

        Nah, I dont think so.

They have been the calm, methodical, and rational party all the way along.

I understand that they’re awful authoritarians guilty of human rights abuse, but the y do seem to mean what they say.

I almost get it. The Iranian regime really are a bunch of bastards. This is not, however, the response of a measured diplomat and statesman, or even a realpolitik operator. It’s the response of an arrogant, petulant, ignorant baby-man who’s determined to take the bait every time and cede the moral high ground to an utterly inhumane regime that makes his kiddie-pool fascism look quaint. Not doing that is a big part of why the former administrations in both parties never did something as stupid as kick off open military conflict with Iran.
