See, that’s why US cops just shoot protesters instead.

surprisingly enough, police don’t shoot at armed protestors in the us. but for some reason protesting groups make being unarmed a requirement, and if you show up armed, they other you and work with police to get you removed

looked like an unorganized charge though. Germany has (unfortunately) laws against demonstrating when police said its go home time. So they just pick individuals and book them for the night. With a few (unlawful) bonks on the head.

You can try resisting and de-arresting if the crowd is involved, but in my experience demonstration crowds in Germany are just passive, and a few cops can do that comfortably because the rest of the thousands of assistants just stand there and watch.

        We Germans are just pussies.

I’m super jelly of France where they start burning the whole country when their gouvernment tries to increase the retirment age from 64 to 65 in Germany it’s been 67 for decades without major protests from the population.

Yeah… Moments later they’ll start throwing teargass cannisters and bring the water canon. That’ll cause people to begin dispersing, and when they do, those riot police will charge again and then they’ll certainly not retreat.

The local hospital will have a very busy evening.

In France (and in the civilized world at large) there are levels of escalation in policing, here is a great example. The US however as I understand it has two levels: eating donut —> opening fire. For some reason the US is slightly dysfunctional, apparently.

This is an element I appreciated of the WatchDogs games. If you escalate methods slowly, the fascist security forces do the same. So if you use baton strikes, they act the same way, and aim for an arrest that won’t kill off your unnamed character. It’s mostly a way to prefer stealth, since that stays nonlethal and silent. But in an emergency if you start shooting, they shoot back.

There’s also some bits of karma to pre-escalation on their side; 3 guards guarding an entryway is tricky to get through. 3 guards backed up by a giant machine gun turret is actually easier since it’s just a button press.

Guns, airpower, and artillery upended many of the classic rules of warfare that were practiced and honed for thousands of years before these technologies arrived. But protest and riot return us to the close quarter melee warfare that defined millenia, and for which there are writings from authoritative experts like Sun Tzu, Alexander, Xenephon, Vegetius, their writings on military strategy including use of archers, cavalry, terrain, complex movement, supply logistics, and tactical intelligence. Modern riots are fascinating in how they echo these historical principles so closely.

In your defense, my (french) mother made pretty much exactly the same joke when she saw this clip on bluesky - something about going back to their paddock like the stereotypical vichy pigs they are.

She was a bit… unclear on the whole concept of children, really. I think I’m the only kid to have been dropped off for their first day of school with the number for Amnesty International written on their arm. But I can say with certainty that among her many eccentricities, “even the slightest tolerance for fascists” has and will never be included.

There’s the difference, like our maga red hats are a loud insane minority. Otherwise, we literally wouldn’t exist as a nation without the French providing gold and ships just to give England a “fuck you,” and they have been winning wars since before America was a country.

Honestly think the French hate was/is a psychops.

If you was rich and in power and wanted to maintain control would you really want your people to like the country that is known for killing the rich and powerful?
