Since when has Russia ever been a leftist state, oh right, never. It was an authoritarian state during the USSR that called itself communist. Now it is a “democratic” authoritarian state. Sweden which is a socialist democracy is far closer to socialism than the USSR ever was, and it’s a wonderful country. I had members on my team that lived there.

This is the problem with Democratic voters turning on Biden over Gaza. The Republican stance is that all Palestinians are Hamas, and they should be either killed or exiled. “Not calling for a ceasefire quickly enough” isn’t a thing on the right, and it never will be.

Also, biden’s biggest problems right now are that more black and Latino voters are moving to the republican side. The polling today was really worrying.

The only thing those voters ask from Biden is to represent them too in this conflict. He doesn’t, so putting the blame on them if he loses the elections, is not fair.

Also he made it clear he doesn’t care about their voices, so all he has to do is replace those votes with Jewish voters I guess? Muslims and Jews make up 1% each of the entire US population (census 2020), so it’ll straighten itself out.

US Jews aren’t that closely alligned to Israel; particularly if you are talking about the current Israeli leadership (which a significant portion of Israelis also aren’t alligned with). Further, the preferences of US Jews is pretty corralated to their political party; where Jewish Republicans are far more pro Israel than Jewish democrats.

        https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2021/05/21/u-s-jews-have-widely-differing-views-on-israel/

The above survey is old, but I don’t think the story has fundamentally changed.

Across all US Jews (as of the time the survey was conducted)

40% rate Netenyahus leadership as good or excellent (25% of Democratic Jews, 80% of Republican Jews)

34% Strongly oppose the BDS (anti Israel Boycott, Divest, Sanctions) movement. (28% Democratic Jews, 54% Republican Jews)

33% Thought that Israel was making a sincere effort to peace. (20% Democratic Jews, 66% Republican Jews)

32% Thought that God gave Israel to the Jews. (22% Democratic Jews, 60% Republican Jews).

When people talk about the “Jewish” position for Israel in thr context of US politics, they are really talking about the Republican position.

That’s an odd response to what I wrote…what I said is that the two choices are becoming more and more evil, not that they are evil in the first place. Which is not how that phrase has typically been used (to justify selecting the lesser of the two evils).

Which, side note, may make sense in the context of, there are actually only two choices. But what we do is collectively lock ourselves into those two choices and then choose between them, when there are not only other parties and independent candidates we could support, but entirely separate political systems we could move to.

          • @kromem
            link

The entire point is selecting the lesser of two evils.

If you choose to eat strawberry ice cream instead of dog poop, that’s not selecting the lesser of two evils.

If you choose to eat bugs instead of dog poop, that’s where you’d refer to it as the lesser of two evils.

Having an objectively good option and an objectively terrible one isn’t choosing the lesser of two evils.

Having a terrible one and a slightly less terrible one is.

You are correct that we shouldn’t need to be choosing between the lesser of two evils, but that phrase only really applies when both options suck.

The republicans are not really governing: they are pandering. There’s no way such a measure could become law with the Democratic majority in the Senate. Even if such a measure became law, the Supreme Court would have to completely redefine due process for this to remain law, however, the Supreme Court did decide in favor of internment camps for Japanese American citizens, so I supposed this can not be ruled out.

The issue is that trying not to play, just plays into the hands of the extremists.

I watched something similar play out with Brexit. It was less a shit sandwich and more a firehouse of diarrhea shoved down our collective throat. It’s been less than pleasant. And no. America did not put Putin in power. He made a power play on Yeltsin and had the presidency handed to him. Being the former head of the KGB, he knows how to press people to get what he wants. America also did not start the Ukrainian war, that started when Putin invaded in 2014 and stole Crimea. It can end today, Putin just had to go home. America should’ve bombed his personal mansion(s) for Crimea too, as we swore to defend Ukraine against an aggressive Russia when Ukraine gave up their nukes but Obama’s a bitch.

You’re being downvoted but you’re not really wrong. Biden just sent millions of more dollars to the cops " to protect schools " as if American police departments aren’t already some of the most heavily armed and well equipped police in the world right now.

          https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/4289536-biden-administration-334m-police-officers-school-security/

The Republicans are definitely more overt in their anti women and anti queer rheortic and actions, but the dems are fortifying the military industrial complex when the writing on the wall is clearly that these weapons will be used agaisnt the people domestically rather then protecting any schools or whatever bullshit reason they come up with.

Many police have been openly supportive of fascist movements and helped facilitate Trumps election in the first place. Not to mention most American cops seem to think that the BLM protests were worse then J6. Giving them more weapons and power will only result in more death for the average person. They’re a quasi military/state within state force at this point.

The fact that this critism is not taken at face value is insane. Biden is a racist bootlicker in his own right. Democrats will sell the rope to the Republicans that they will use to hang them with.

Downvoters without commenting their dissent are just cowards, I wasn’t expecting good anti imperialist takes from lemmyworld anyhow

which is why im very surprised someone like you is here, your voice is a rock in a storm, I thank you.

The dems have also continued building the wall, opening several large oil extraction projects, and have ended any response to the still very active covid crisis.

But libs will take the lies at face value without doing anything to look at the actual actions being taken. After BLM most democrat mayors increased police spending and cracked down on all BLM movements. BLM failed, it was co-opted into a useless saying and hashtag. The dems exist to break the american left and turn everyone into mindless liberals.

Mother Anarchy loves her sons, and daughters too.

Because they appropriated the words of Malcom X and Martin Luther without ever actually reading what they said about America!

Anarchy is our mother! She cannot be sold! Long live the rebellious souls!
