So all the other stuff was fine and that was the last straw?
He’s a Mormon. Sex is what matters to them.
So January 6 should have been sexier? /s
Edit: I thought this was a fun, snarky comment but after seeing some of the replies, I regret making it 😆
MTG is the insurrectionist who penetrated deep into the government
I suppose he acquitted Trump because the events of Jan 6th weren’t gay enough. Shirtless shaman guy got Sen. Romney slightly aroused but it didn’t quite meet the bar for his tastes. /s
[Note update: He voted to acquit trump on only 1 of 3 charges]
If memory serves, Romney voted to convict on both impeachments.

Alright I concede that 2/3 is a passing grade, Romney.
He did, both times.
Ironically, I’ve had lots of gay sex with Mormons.
As long as you were only soaking and someone else jump-humped it doesn’t count. That’s the 2nd of God’s loopholes.
He kept his special underwear on to protect him from the gay waves. Just remember to spit.
Mormons of all sexualities have a lot of sex, especially when they’re teenagers. They just repress all of that later and feel super guilty about it.
Teenagers are going to hump each others’ brains out. No religion will ever change that.
Yep. It’s crazy to think that a person at the time in someone’s life when every single hormone in their body is saying, “FUCK SOMEONE! RIGHT NOW!” is usually going to be able to ignore that.
Did you keep the magic underwear?
No… but I will say, as hideously unsexy as they are supposed to be, there was something really kinky about it. Sinning is my favorite flavor.
I think you mean, the lack of sex is what matters to them. 🤣
I don’t know, their five wives and 33 kids might suggest otherwise.
Baby steps man, baby steps. The fact that one of the has a line is a start.
Romney clearly didnt vote for Trump in 2020 either, he wanted to impeach him last I remember.
Romney is a never Trumper, this wasn’t the last straw. He is one of the few Republicans in office who has been calling Trump out on all his shady past and present ever since he started campaigning for the 2016 election.
You can always count on Mitt Romney to uphold the bare minimum standards of ethics.
I hate that I have to say the bare minimum ethics is the gold star standard for republicans right now.
Have you heard of the All-American prophet? The blonde-haired, blue-eyed voice of God!
… Most of the time. Okay, at least some of the time. Which gives him an overwhelming lead against the entire rest of the Republican pack who are aggressively opposed to the concept of ethics in general
It’s always amazing where some Republicans draw the line. Overt racism? Bizarre incoherence? Trying to overturn an election with a riot? Spousal assault previously documented in court? Paying off prostitutes with campaign money? Trying to use federal foreign aid money to start a fake smear campaign on an opponent? Calling up state election officials and pressuring them to create a bullshit election investigation? Politicizing public health because you’re vain about your weird makeup? Mocking disabled people? Having Russian officials over to the White House and destroying the translator’s notes? Saying things about women like “bleeding out of her whatever”? Demonstrating a pattern of fraudulent accounting for decades? No problem. But this ONE thing, that’s too much.
That’s how you can tell it’s performative and carefully chosen
The last somewhat normal repub dirtbag. Stopped clock.
It’s easy to find Romney supporting something you agree with, because he’s taken both sides of most issues. He seems reasonable now in comparison to Trump and the MAGA dipshits, but that’s a really low bar we should ignore.
Changing your mind can be a good thing, if your decision is based on new facts and a change in public opinion.
Changing your mind because wealthy doners tell you to is not.
I honestly don’t care to dive into Romneys past enough to figure out which is which. But changing one’s mind over a lifetime in politics is probably a good thing.
I don’t need to dive into anything, I lived through his career. He was progressive in Massachusetts when it served him to be so. He was regressive in Utah when it served him to be so. He is the quintessential slimeball politician, constantly asking where his people are going so that he might lead them there.
He also put his dog in a crate on top of his car and went on a road trip. So he’s definitely a piece of shit any way you slice it.
So… you’re saying he represented the people he was elected to represent, and worked within those bounds?
The dog thing is a weird ass thing to bring up in a discussion on his politics.
I voted against him for president. I’m sure I disliked his conservative policies, and dems had a good candidate, so it was a no brainer. But I don’t need to demonify him.
No, I’m saying he pretended to represent those people while serving himself. He paid lip service to the base voters, and used wedge issues like a gambler uses slot machines, going from one to the next hoping for a big payout.
The dog thing just brings into stark relief what sort of person he is in private. He told that story on himself, because he thought it was funny when he saw his dog’s piss and shit running down the back windshield on the highway. That’s a man who lacks empathy, and is entirely out of touch with regular humans.
Almost like he’s a conservative. Not a Republican but picked a party because you have to if you want your votes/political career to go anywhere. It would be fair to say both conservatives and liberals alike do not appreciate sexual assault / rape. The Republican party just closed it’s eyes or looks away because it will hit their political strength to acknowledge all the scumbags in their party
To be a conservative is to grow your political beliefs around your identity. Every conservative is the same in this regard, and that is how you end up with wildly disparate conservative values. The first decision a conservative makes is who is included in the “self.” Then they decide what policies and positions best benefit the self. This has always been true of every conservative who ever lived.
The problem they have right now is that Trump has made himself the only “self” that matters, and supporting him is the only path to power the Republican party has. All who have opposed him were made to kneel or be destroyed. Even Romney supported Trump when it was politically expedient. Romney tried to wrest control of the GOP away from Trump and failed, and look at him now.
The party must support Trump, because to abandon him now is to admit to the grift. They would have to acknowledge that he isn’t the messiah, and then the in-fighting begins. Because suddenly they would need to redefine the self, and whoever wins gets to set the values of the party.
Damn, remember when he was one of the “evil” ones? Now look at us, almost taking his side and desperately hoping a new wave Republican doesn’t summon an incubus as their running mate.

And the whole point of voting is that it’s anonymous. We can never know who anyone voted for really.
Buuut the lack of endorsement is good. if he publicly endorses Biden that may sway some “moderates” who would vote for Trump.

You can definitely trust a Republican to do what they said they would /s
Well, only after they’ve checked out of politics. Romney was republican tumor in the colon of the government that decided to detach and get shit out. If tumors this large are just deciding to fall out, this is beyond stage 4.
I mean if he publicly says he wouldn’t vote for Trump but then actually does, that would be a hell of a lot more beneficial for Biden than saying he supported Trump and then secretly not voting for him.
Guys in this thread are expecting too much from a headline and too much from what was probably a casual interview while walking to a meeting.
Seriously, just how deep does the cult programming go that it takes SO MUCH for cons to even SAY that they won’t vote for this monster?
And, FFS, why do they have to be so cagey about it? Most of them either say they are going wait and see, etc., or that they’ll vote third party. That’s not really better. They need to come right out and say it - tiny d is a monster and supporting him is supporting fascism and they are voting Democratic.
That’s the disqualification??? lol. Republicans are just handmaidens for fascism at this point. Democrats are handmaidens for oligarchy. And before anyone jumps in to defend some of Biden’s very good pro labor positions/policies/staff selections; yes, I know. But if the NLRB is dismantled by the SC, all of it will be for nothing.

Okay so weirdly enough that seems like one of the least bad things he has done… Yeah I don’t know where to go with that thought either.
tara reade would like a word

You mean that right-wing attempt to accuse Biden of exactly what Trump did as a distraction from his own guilt?
Trump being a rapist doesn’t get Biden off a sexual assault charge.
The woman that lied under oath?
Did she, or was this character assassination? Her law degree would not be possible without a bachelors degree.
The woman whose own lawyers dropped her because she couldn’t get her facts straight?
The only relevant fact is whether or not Joe forced his fingers inside her.
u da real mvp
>Ahh. You mean that right-wing attempt to accuse Biden of exactly what Trump did
as a distraction from his own guiltthis is a conspiracy theory.

Just like it takes two to tango, it takes two people to start a stupid fight on the internet for no fucking reason. You don’t need to always have the last word in every stupid internet argument.
Stop feeding the trolls Pratai. You could just block them, but instead you keep instigating responses and then reporting their posts to us. You’re probably making HACKthePRISONS happy by engaging with them.
If you don’t like someones responses, downvote them and move on. If you’re so personally offended you can’t handle even seeing their comments, then block them and move on.

>You’re probably making HACKthePRISONS happy by engaging with them.
frankly i never wanted any response from them at all, and the fact that tehy follow me around and tell people not to engage with me is creepy, i also think it violates your own instance rule “Be respectful. Everyone should feel welcome here.” and i can’t believe you are still willing to host them and their alts.
said you knew where the block button is

>Look man. I’m not arguing with you about this
then don’t.
>You’re a right-wing troll that defends the J6 attacks.
all lies
> I honestly don’t care about what you respond with.
teh rest of your comment says this is a lie
Lmao one was adjudicated by a jury of peers the other is a bad republiturd hoax
this is a conspiracy theory.
I’ll never forget when Romney was speaking to an audience of supporters when he was running against Obama, and someone asked about Obama being a foreigner with a fake birth certificate. Romney very gently assured the woman that Obama was an American, and would make a great president even though they disagreed on policies. It’s that kind of professionalism that we need to bring back to politics today.
Edit: It seems that I was conflating McCain and Romney. Here’s a video to make up for my blunder. https://youtu.be/dX_1B0w7Hzc?si=bUFcURfGMpTowOtT
I only recall McCain doing that. not Romney.
That was definitely McCain doing it. However Romney did call out Russia being our greatest threat still and Obama mocked him in the debate for it. 2 years later they “annexed” Crimea and 10 years later they cause the largest war in Europe. Obama failed on international policy regarding a lot of “enemies” and either underestimating them or treating them with kid gloves in the hope of improving relations.
Romney was wrong then and he is wrong now.
The greatest threat is and was China. Russia does not have the means to directly compete with the United States.
China isn’t desperate enough to invade half of Europe and threaten to nuke everyone, though.
That may be it. My memory is failing.
No worries.
Romney did tie his family dog to the roof of thier car while on a vacation road trip. So he’s uh got that going for him.
I really do miss that veneer of social fabric on things
Yeah that wasn’t Romney
slow clap
