If you only release 1 game over the decades, then you can set all kinds of records! 🎉🥳

That’s true. But that isn’t what Nintendo has done, is it? I’ve bought lots of games made by Nintendo. Literally all the (physical) games I have are by Nintendo. 🤔

I don’t understand the point you’re trying to make here.

Yeah totally true. People always buy 10 year old games that suck in droves. Oh wait

Obviously it has to be good from the start, but yes. See GTA and Skyrim as examples where they support and market an old title.

The original commenter was implying the game wasn’t that good, they just didn’t release others. My point was exactly that it had to be good for people to still be buying/playing it.

The sarcasm here tells us you’re not that familiar with the games industry

So you’re claiming that old games that suck are popular or…?

I think I misread what you said because MK8 doesn’t suck. But still arguably yes, case in point being Skyrim IMO. Or like, Fallout 4

My point was that if a game sells for a decade it’s obviously pretty good

Yeah, just ask Bethesda about Skyrim!

You know how high was MK8D in last month’s top e-shop downloads? Third.

I don’t think it ever dropped below fifth (and even that only for months with a bunch of huge releases) and it’s been very often first or second.

I love the game, but I just don’t understand how this is possible. Like, at some point, everyone mildly interested in getting it should have it…?

Switch consoles are still selling as well as ever, and most of them come bundled with MK8D

So even if you’re not interested, you might still get a digital copy of the game just because it came with your console.

It’s one of the first games people buy to get into the nintendo world. A fun simple game that anyone in the family can play. There aren’t that many games that entertaining for all ages with local multiplayer for casual quick gaming with friends or family.

It’s really understandable how successful the game is.

I suspect the MK8D DLC pushes the sells along the years even further. Those uncertain about buying it cross the line because, hey, hype.

I suspect Nintendo will do the same for their next MK game.

I’ve only bought two Nintendo games twice.

First was Super Smash Bros. Brawl because my first game disc got scratched by accident and became unreadable by the Wii console.

The second was Mario Kart 8 because of the Booster Course Pass even though I bought this game a decade ago on the Wii U with its DLC.

The BCP makes this game feel new again, like a Mario Kart 8.5.

It’s such a shame. MK8 is turning a decade old soon. I just want a new MK. Fuck the Switch, man
