Democrats are NOT leftists, they’re center right at best. They ultimately serve corporate interests and NOT the will of the people.

You will never get universal healthcare, police reform, free college, less military spending, and other leftist ideals from the Democrat party because they’re not leftists. Doing these things runs counter to the interests of their corporate masters.

We have a fascist party and a conservative party, but we don’t actually have a liberal party. We haven’t had one since before Clinton.

    No they won’t.

Trump just said that he’s going to impose tariffs that are going to increase the cost of living by about $400 a month per family. Elon Musk just said he plans on imposing “hardship” on the country for a few years. And Americans voted ovewhelmingly in favor of that. The economy will tank, yes. But they’ll just blame Democrats and the voters will eat it up.

Don’t believe me? gestures at Tuesday.

That’s assuming we have another election at all. Trump – A man, remember, that has repeatedly said that terminating the Constitution was on the table – now has the White House, both branches of government, a supreme court largely appointed by him, and several state governments. Moderate republicans have been successfully rooted out or marginalized. Trump could very well follow through on that promise, backdropped by the thunderous applause of the other two branches of government.

Suspending or terminating the Constitution by the federal government is definitely a good reason for secession if I’ve ever seen one. I hope California and other such states are thinking hard about their future here. That would be the last act of the United states.

Oh, I’m not saying it would be a good idea by any stretch of the imagination. Secessions would be the least we’d have to worry about.

I’m just saying that in a world where Trump has seriously and repeatedly suggested it, his voting base has actively said they’re OK with it, and all 3 branches are firmly and securely in his pocket, Trump going so far as to actually suspending the Constitution is a very, very real possibility. Especially if he’s being advised by an administration stacked from top to bottom with Trump yes-men and crazies that make Qanon conspiracy theorists seem sane.

The trend is that when the economy is bad for the average person, it hurts the incumbent.

I don’t think the people whose votes swung the election in Trump’s favor know how tariffs work or what policies Musk has in mind. They don’t even know why eggs are expensive (bird flu); they just know things were cheaper last time Trump was president.

Of course that’s assuming there’s a free and fair election next time around.

Having elected a fascist autocrat, who already prepared the way by having the supreme court declare him above the law. Living in the country with the most militarized police, a nation with a massive capability to spy on it’s own citizens, citizens who have little critical thinking capability to begin with. A society where social media creates the reality those poorly educated citizens live in, and social media is owned by oligarchs who benefit from a system where pleasing one narcissistic leader gives them power over regulators and increases their wealth more rapidly. I think people are a little optimistic to believe we can’t call the next election today.

Ding ding ding! This is the right answer folks. US citizens will be lucky to get fair elections (if at all) for the foreseeable future. There is no counterweight to what lies ahead, the doors to hell have been opened and no one is coming to save you. If you are in the US, you have the following choices: leave, survive (read: assimilate or hide), or fight.

I’m sorry, it mega sucks and unfortunately you can only pick from the other two remaining options. If you’re not part of the targeted minorities or vocally a part of the opposition, here are some tips on assimilation:

          • Keep your head down and keep a low profile
          • Stay out of any media attention at all costs
          • Be VERY careful with who you trust - denunciations are a common tool used by fascist governments to find targets. Avoid pissing off anyone who could throw you to the wolves.
          • Button up any communications that could ever be construed as a slight against the ruling party. That means getting off social media, browsing and communicating on the internet completely anonymously, stop using devices and software that can spy on you. Wipe anything that can be interpreted as criticism of the ruling party that can be connected to you.
          • Keep any documents with proof of citizenship on you at all times
          • Start sounding like you’ve always supported the party and their ideas, or that you’ve suddenly “seen the way” and agree with them now.
          • This one is riskier in the long term as fascists eventually start eating one another, but if you can, try to get a low level position in the party. Something inconsequential like cleaning, paperwork, etc.

Essentially, start studying what other people did to survive under similarly oppressive regimes. The change won’t happen overnight, but if this is going the way I think it’s going, your access to options will become increasingly limited so do what you can now to get ready.

Alternatively, wait until it becomes clear that you’re a political target, travel somewhere where you can get refugee status and claim asylum once you’re there. You don’t want to leave this until it’s too late, and it’ll get increasingly harder to do, but there’s no way to tell yet what the trigger could be.

That feeling in your belly? That need to huddle with your people, in closeness and silence? It’s the waiting room. Because you don’t know what we are going to be yet, but it’s not going to be a democracy and it’s not going to be America.

But, reclaiming any sort of democracy from the autocrats will be very difficult. The damage was done Tuesday. And it will take generations for this country to recover, if it does it all.

We are certainly in a stronger position than woman when they had no right to vote, or black Americans during the civil rights era.

I know this is bad but we can’t be whiny bitches about it and give up the moment the scale tips in their favor.

Freedom is still a strong message that can resonate. Professionalism and sound economic policy too. I suspect they will be even more greatly appreciated by then…

Sure, fake elections are a possibility, but with overwhelming exit polling and local activists doing everything they can to provide accurate vote tallies we can at least make it abundantly clear if 2028 ends up stolen. Illegitimate power leaves MAGA exposed to a broad range of potential challenges.

          Or maybe not.

But at least be ready for that moment if it comes and don’t actively discourage others from doing the same. If MAGA can fight this hard for complete bullshit nonsense from some billionaire that openly manipulates them, then we can fight harder for the rights of our children and future generations.

Actually, to be quite honest… we’ve been looking at a pretty much inevitable recession in 2025 for about nine months now.

The slight upside is that this will happen in the onset of Trump’s term and likely lead to widespread discontent instead of hitting a Harris administration right out the gate.

For poetic justice this whole cycle of greed-flation into recession seems to have been mostly triggered by Trump royally fucking up his pandemic response on the first place.
