Was that duty free butter? Of course not, Publix doesn’t have a Customs agency, dork. You need to buy your groceries at an airport so you can say that you are travelling to a transportation center and using the roads as an easement, granting an unobstructed path. And police count as an obstruction. Just ignore them and only stop when you get to the property line of the airport. If you travel onto the tarmac, then only airport police can chase you and it will significantly reduce the amount of police who might confuse your rights if they try to detain you.

I was not participating in traffic.
I did have a FL Driver License on me, but I told them that I was not in the capacity of a driver or driving.
Does anyone else think this sounds like they quickly popped over to the passenger seat before arguing with a police officer?
That’s what I was trying to figure out. He was pulled over while driving and then said he wasn’t driving, like…? Even for the sovcit community, that seems exceptionally stupid.
He was “traveling”. That’s their workaround for not needing to have a driver’s license normally.
To an extent, they are right. Everyone has the right to travel freely. As in, a state is not allowed to restrict your ability to go from point A to point B. However,
wrothwith all things legal, it’s subject to reasonable limitations. You can walk from A to B unless that causes you to cross a busy highway on foot. You can’t drive around other taxpayers on taxpayer funded roads without a valid DL.I feel like these guys are generally well intentioned, and I empathize with the broad strokes of what they’re going for. They just seem to always go about it in the most poorly thought out way possible.
The person here got busted for driving without a license plate. In other words, they were happy to take advantage of things the public paid for and created but they didn’t want to follow the rules at the public also created. Do you think they have insurance on the car? What’s going to happen if they hit someone?
Or one of the posts from the other day was someone who didn’t want to pay the loan on their car. They took out a loan, they got a new car, and they stopped paying for it. Then they got upset because people were coming to repo the vehicle. It’s not like they didn’t realize that they were trying to steal a car. They thought that some word games would let them get away with it.
So I believe that most of them are trying to game the system and they know exactly what they’re doing. But I want to ask you, because your view is different from mine and I’ve been wrong about many things in the past, what are you empathizing with?
I get that, for sure and I do agree that they are in the wrong here. I empathize with the broad strokes ideas against government overreach in our personal lives. I understand wanting to live freely without every decision we make being shaped by what a government agency does or does not allow us to do. With that being said, while I empathize with the idea, I wouldn’t say that 90% of these folks are going about it in a harmless way. So while I empathize with them, I wouldn’t say I agree with them if that makes sense.
Not sure how many of them are well intentioned. Seems like a lot of them are just looking for excuses to get away with not doing shit everyone else has to do.
I don’t know if I’d consider it “well intentioned”, but I sympathise with sovcits because actually there’s a hell of a lot that regular people are expected to do but the rich and the powerful aren’t: “rules for thee but not for me” energy. SovCits are silly for thinking that they can say some magic words to make the system’s loopholes work for them, but I don’t think they’re too unreasonable for wishing that to be the case. I don’t think their approach is productive, but I think that they at least are seeing and responding to the same injustice that motivates me and many in my community
I get to some extent where you are coming from. But there’s a reason we register cars and pay taxes for roads and stuff like that. (Yes the wealthy exploit this. And that is wrong. That needs to be fixed. But the concept of being part of a society is that we all contribute.)
Oh yeah, I definitely agree with you on this — the answer to “society is being harmed by selfish people who are exploiting the system while not contributing back” isn’t “I will give up on society and instead try to become one of the selfish people who see themselves as exempt from the social contract”. My comment was just explaining why, as well as scoffing at SovCits, I also grieve for them, for lack of a better word; As silly and arrogant as they often are, I pity and even somewhat sympathise with them.
Certainly there have been many times in my life where I have bought into a lie because it was easier than acknowledging that some awful injustices could be allowed to happen. In particular, in recent years I have been grappling with negative self talk that arose after a severely traumatic period in my life, where it was more palatable to convince myself that I deserved what happened to me than to acknowledge the truth that no-one deserves that, that it shouldn’t ever happen in a just world, and yet it did. Those lies are less public than the ones that SovCits fall for, but buy-in comes from a similar place, I feel.
