I discovered long ago that I don’t really like bacon, I like the salt and seasonings. I was trying to be healthy and bought bacon without the salt and stuff that I couldn’t pronounce and found that I didn’t really enjoy it so I stopped. There will be trouble if you try to take away my (salted & seasoned) cashews.
Demented bacon eaters does sound like an apt outcome.

I had vegan bacon with the same taste and texture it threw me off so there’s no need to lie about stuff.
I had vegan bacon that was squishy and tasted like the eggplant it was made of. There’s no need to call other people liars.
You need to try more options at the very least before painting things with a broad brush.
